Multi-version movie not working for me

Server Version#: Version 3.108.2
Player Version#:WEB

I’ve followed the multi-version naming convention from here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200381043-multi-version-movies/

I have:
Allegiant (2016)/
Allegiant (2016) - 1080p.BluRay.DD5.1.x264-HiFi.mkv
Allegiant (2016) - 2160p.mkv

However I still get two copies of the movie in the library.

This happens for all my movies like this. The article seems to say that everything after - is extra and is ignored by plex.

How do I get only one copy in the library?

thanks

You Need:

Allegiant (2016) [1080p.BluRay.DD5.1.x264-HiFi]/
Allegiant (2016) [1080p.BluRay.DD5.1.x264-HiFi].mkv

Allegiant (2016) [2160p]/
Allegiant (2016) [2160p].mkv

Better Plex Dance this item and go for a proper ‘do-over’.

But if that fails - ‘Merge’ them.
If that’s too annoying - Log Files.

I tried both of these options:
To merge the files, name them:

  • MovieName (Release Year) - ArbitraryText.ext

and when that didn’t work I tried:

/Movies
   /Pulp Fiction (1994)
      Pulp Fiction (1994) - 1080p.mkv
      Pulp Fiction (1994) - SD.m4v

It seems you are proposing something in between?

Yea, it’s just that some veterans and ninjae recommend a folder for each movie - and veterans and ninjae agree stuff in [Brackets] is absolutely ignored by Plex while what’s after the ‘-’ may be, sometimes, depending.

Also, if you don’t Plex Dance this item - it may never behave:

… and that’s every step - in the order described - with no deviations - whatsoever.

This usually happens if you changed the library’s default agent inbetween.
So you now have e.g.
old version = Plex Movie
new version = TheMovieDatabase
If the two versions are matched with different agents, they are two different movies for Plex.

As Juice mentioned, you can either ‘Merge’ them or perform the Plex Dance with both. The result will usually be the same.

I did do this. I hate that Plex defaulted to Plex Movie and like 20 of my 500 movies, so I changed to TheMovieDatabase and found everything.

sounds like I need to go dancing.
