How to tell apart which files have Dolby Vision Profile 8.1?

I have been using a Shield PRO Android TV box to watch 4K content from my Plex Server. Some of it is DV.

It was announced by Apple that the newest TVos that “Dolby Vision 8.1” is going to be supported in its latest release coming this fall.

If I can play my content on an Apple TV, I would upgrade to Apple TV 4K and abandon the Shield PRO in a heartbeat.

Is there an easy way to tell if a file has Dolby Vision Profile 8.1?

Forgive me if this isn’t 100% correct as I’m just heading off to work and can’t double check before I post.

But I think on the web app if you hover over a single item (an episode or movie) there should be three dots at the bottom right hand corner.

Click those and select file info (I think it’s called)
That will show if it’s Dolby Vision and indeed which variant.

Sadly there’s no better filtering to mass detect I don’t think.

Hello,

Some of my files have a Dolby profile 8, Dovi level 6 and a DOVI COMPAT ID of 1.

Another set have a Dolby profile 7, DoVi level 6 and a DOVI COMPAT ID of 6.

This is all according to Plex.

I take it the files that have a profile of 8 are actually profile 8.1?

They will almost certainly be profile 8.1 unless it’s home videos that you created yourself.

None of these are home movies. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is excellent news! I guess I’ll be doing some thinking (and maybe some spending!) Thanks!

Well those features aren’t even public beta yet. Also Plex will have to make the app compatible.

Meanwhile even before the Apple announcement profile 8.1 was made possible in Infuse a few months ago.
So I already enjoy Profile 8.1 on my Apple TV.
It is cool that Apple are gonna support it natively though.

I see it as future proofing.

Look at the Plex Media Info for the file or analyze it with MediaInfo.
