Plex does not play the Dolby Vision metadata for any files except profile 5 on Apple TV
It simply plays the HDR metadata and forces the Apple TV into Dolby Vision mode for 8.1. In exactly the same it does with Profile 7

It’s single layer Dolby Vision with HDR10 fallback but thanks for the concern.
The significance of me knowing what it is and the fact that Plex on Apple TV plays the HDR fallback (not the DV metadata) whilst forcing the Apple TV into Dolby Vision mode is lost on me.
It’s not like it’s breaking news. It’s been discussed in several threads here and various tech sites etc for the last couple of years.
Fake DV is not just some random term that I dreamt up.
It’s happening to you right now every time you play a Profile 7 or 8 in Plex.
In infuse it can convert Profile 8 to profile 5 on the fly, so real DV.
Meanwhile Profile 7 will play back as HDR10 which is exactly how it should be.
