So my bad in not following the proper DSM 6 to DSM 7 migration guides.
So basically stuck in a situation where I can no longer manage the running instance.
I’ve tried to uninstall from the WebUI, but get no response on the UI.
I have backups of the my database and other folders, but would really like to re-install, so question is how do you completely remove packages from Synology DSM when you can’t seem to do so from the WebUI ?
Are there any guide on uninstalling broken packages from the CLI via SSH ?
Just not sure how to get latest package running again, even if that means loosing my watch history and having to rescan my library.
Independent of what you did during the migration, if you’re on DSM 7.1.1 patch 7, Syno will have their fair share. Patch 8 is supposed to fix the borked control center integration.
Before you go nuclear and completely wipe Plex from your system, let’s see if we can recover your existing Plex server.
Synology NAS model?
DSM version?
As @tom80H mentions, DSM 7.1.1 Update 7 broke Package Center for many non-Synology applications.
If supported by your NAS, updating to DSM 7.2 or DSM 7.2.2 will fix the problem with Package Center. That will make migrating Plex Media Server much easier.
If you cannot update past DSM 7.1.1, then the migration is still possible, but some steps must be performed using either (a) Linux CLI via SSH or (b) a Synology Scheduled Task.
Thanks, so as per @tom80H this is a 7.1.1.1 patch7 issue it seems.
I think I will wait to see if patch 8 comes out soon, as would be nice to have it fixed, in the package center.
I was able to get it to start up, however it’s not migrated any other older data/shared, so not sure if there is a way to force the migration from older PMS off the
/Plex share
To what I assume is the new install
/PlexMediaServer
I did add the Administration Permissions for the PlexMediaServer user account on both the
/Plex and /PlexMediaServer shares, however this was after the initial install (had not read the guides ahead of time).
I did try installing the direct download of the
PlexMediaServer-1.41.3.9314-a0bfb8370-x86_64_DSM7.spk
To no avail, as well as
Plex 1.40 found in the Package Center as well, but no UI to be able to manage it from Web.
I’ve read about manually updating to DMS 7.2.X, however I did also see that there seems to be some issues like disabling the HW acceleration on decode etc, but I am open to suggestions if people think 7.2 is the way forward.
Really appreciate any suggestions, kicking myself for upgrading from 6.2 which seemed to be working fine.
Synology said they will deliver Update 8 sometime in February. That could be 10 days or 38 days from now. Unless you have a specific reason to stay on 7.1.1, you should consider updating to either 7.2.1 or 7.2.2.
My suggestion:
Update to either 7.2.1 (if you use Video Station or Photos) or 7.2.2 (if you do not use the affected Synology apps). This will fix the problems with Package Center.
Once that is complete, you can migrate Plex Media Server that exists in the /Plex shared folder so it works with DSM 7.x. There are several steps involved, but the process is straightforward.
Here is the procedure to follow to migrate your Plex server. Follow it after updating to DSM 7.2.1 or 7.2.2.
The migration can be performed when on DSM 7.1.1 Update 7, but it requires using SSH to access the Synology CLI (to stop, uninstall, etc.). Unless you’ve a specific reason to stay on 7.1.1, update DSM. It makes the Plex migration easier.
Thank you so much for superstar help on this forum!
Followed steps for both DSM update and the migration steps and my DSM and Plex server is back up and running smoothly!
I only wish I’d come across your post earlier today.
