Server Version#: 1.31.1.6782 running on Nvidia SHIELD Pro.
Player Version#: 11, SHIELD Andoid TV SW version 9.1.1 (33.2.0.157) running on Nvidia SHIELD Pro.
I want to use PMS running on Nvidia SHIELD Pro to access videos on an externally connected 20TB USB drive. At the moment, Storage location in SHIELD says “WD USB drive.” That drive has been formatted but contains nothing.
The videos are on a drive on a PC running Win10 Pro x64. Questions:
How do I set up folders on the external USB drive attached to SHIELD? Using https://app.plex.tv is not really clear.
How do I copy videos from the PC to the USB drive? Again, app.plex.tv is not really clear.
In the future, how do I copy new videos from the PC to the USB drive?
I suppose what you’re looking for is the actual procedure of how to make the storage connected to your SHIELD accessible inside your home network (so you can add files)?
The article you cite says: “Once you connect your PC to SHIELD TV …” Does that mean I need to run a USB cable between my Windows PC and SHIELD Pro via USB port 1 on SHIELD?
OK, I attached SHIELD via USB port 2 (farther from HDMI socket) to my Windows PC, and I am now transferring videos from my PC to SHIELD via USB port 1 (nearer to HDMI socket).
But now I got a message on the monitor attached to the SHIELD that internally storage is critically low. Looking at the storage (PC\SHIELD Android TV\Internal shared storage) via Windows File Manger, it has 0 bytes free out of 11.6GB. That’s not the USB drive, which is 20TB as I said.
I guess I have to fiddle with how SHIELD regards the USB drive.
Given the size of my video libraries, about 11TB, I moved the 20TB HDD to my Windows PC and did the copying of videos there. When that was done, I moved the HDD back to SHIELD.
For future additions of videos, I’ll do Windows key+R, type in \\<IP address of SHIELD> and add videos via the File Manager instance that pops up in the Windows system.
