Trying to setup Plex to run when my internet goes down.
My Plex server is running on a Qnap TS-653a with all my media on the same unit.
I’m running 3 Nvidia Shields as Plex Clients on my local network.
In Plex settings Under Web Client>Debug, I have both Direct Play and Direct Stream checked on.
So is there a way to watch Plex when the internet goes down?
It would be really helpful if the server fell back to non-Plex Pass functionality at those times when either the server’s Internet connection was down or the Plex servers are offline (been getting 502 bad gateway errors from my client a few times in the last couple of weeks).
Nah, that’s more to do with asking the user for a PIN when they try to access from a device on a given network.
I’m talking about how any access to your PMS has to go via app.plex.tv in one way or another. If you’ve got no Internet, or the Plex services at that URI are having a bad day, you can’t access the data on your local server with a Plex client.
I would install Kodi on those shield clients as an offline backup. You can watch movies from your NAS through SMB.
I use KODI on my Raspberry Pi in my car, without internet. I only connect it to internet at home every once in a while to scrape movie artwork and metadata.
sekthree reporting back.. ok so.. I pulled the internet cable going into my router and tested several “apps” for connectivity. I tried to take as best screen shots and photos as i could. The end result was, i was able to access my Plex server without internet.
Settings: these images were from UNO release, but they seemed to carry over into the 6.1 release (shared?)… Uno did NOT work, i’ll be submitting a bug.
