HTPC - Is it now time to go back?

With the release of the new Plex HTPC player, I am seriosly considering switching back to using a HPTC for my main TV. Currently I am using the android TV app on my Sony TV.

The android apps seem to continually have basic DVR features broken. Currently cant play recordings in progress they just loop. Recordings of films where the audio codec changes from the adverts that proceed it just play back in super slow motion. Search of the TV guide brings back no results. These have been broken for months and in some some cases have been temperamental for years. I have thought about getting a more powerful android player like the Sheild pro, but reading the forums seems to suffer the same issues.

What I have noticed that whenever I test these same issues on my Windows PC I use as secondary player in another room, it never seems to suffer the same problems or other issues to the same extent. I don’t use it as much so I was wondering if in general other users find the Windows app features much more stable?

I was thinking about getting a passively cooled UltraNUC Pro 7 based small PC to act as a player in my living room. As the HTPC application is still new I know it is likely to still have teething problems but at least I will have the PC desktop app to fall back on, which never seems to have all the problems of the android app.
