Sorry for not having the versions on hand, I’m not in front of them and wanted to get this down before I forget everything.
On two different Mac minis running high Sierra, there is no on screen controls, progress bar, title, etc when playing videos. Computers are connected to a big screen TV and previous versions of plex player and openpht work fine. Just noticed htpc came out and excited to get it running!
Tried different screen resolutions, changed all settings in the plex htpc application, full screen vs windowed, pressed every key on the keyboard while playing back. Can’t think of anything else.
Tried searching for this issue but didn’t see anything. Thoughts?
Let’s hope it’s not your older OS or your Mac Mini hardware.
What version number of High Sierra are you on?
What model and specs on your Mac Mini?
HTPC debug logging is enabled by default.
Start HTPC, play a video for 30sec, quit HTPC. (that makes a clean log)
On my system, the most recent HTPC log is:
Is the “AppleRemote” a default for iOS or did you make an input map for that?
My thinking is if the left and right arrow keys navigate you through the library, they should be sending the same signal during playback to FF or rewind
That would be pretty odd, unless I’m misunderstanding what keys are, and aren’t working
If it helps, here is some more information about the setup:
It’s actually happening on two identical MacMini’s sitting side by side.
I have tried a variety of input methods: Flirc IR receiver/mapped buttons, Apple BT mouse/KB, Apple Screen Sharing, and a mini 2.4Ghz keyboard/touchpad device from amazon.
All input devices yield the same results. I even went through and pressed every key on the keyboard to see what does what. Plex responds to all keypresses as expected, except without the OSD. All controls work as expected during playback and in the menus.
I did just get a notice on the Mini that Google Drive sync won’t be supported for much longer and to update to a newer OS. I’m going to try using the MacOS Catalina patcher on one of the machines and see how it fares. Will report back with progress or any other findings.
Sounds like a plan. Sorry to hear this evolved into a major change.
I use SuperDuper! to clone my Macintosh HD so that I have a perfect copy as backup.
Let us know how everything goes.
So I went ahead and took the plunge on my equally old and unsupported Mac Air 11" running High Sierra and sure enough the OSD works after the forced upgrade to Catalina. I’m happy with the performance so far, hopefully it stays this way. I can’t believe that this little laptop, and two Mac Mini’s that I bought about 12 years ago are still kicking.
