I am running Ubuntu 22.04 and use QuickSync to transcode with a 10600k. Hardware accelerated tonemapping/transcoding does not work in 1.28.2.6151 public or 1.29.06219 beta. I reverted to 1.28.0.5999 and all is working again.
It is a known problem. Workaround is to stay on 1.28.0. Hopefully fixed in an upcoming 1.29.1 release.
Thank you. It seems like every other update breaks HW transcoding recently.
If I may comment?
There is a pretty big change in 1.29.1.
It’s one I personally have been wanting for a long time.
I’ve tested it on KabyLake & CometLake in a whole bunch of form factors and it works - on all of them without missing.
Regarding 1.29.0, upgrading Intel Compute Runtime (which we’ve said NOT to upgrade) will allow 1.29.0 to work. There are numerous reports of this already in the forum. This is on-path with 1.29.1
Nutshell:
- 1.28.x - Uses Intel Compute Runtime 21.49.21786
- 1.29.0 - Uses current release Intel Compute Runtime
Must be av1, hevc encoding and proper ipv6 support… ![]()
Ask me no questions and I’ll tell you no lies

Sorry, this does not work for me. I updated to 1.29.0 and updated to the current Intel Compute Runtime, and hardware transcoding did not work.
