I can no longer get Plex Media Server to run on my Synology

Plex DSM Version: 7.1.1-42962
Server Version#: 1.29.2.6364-7000
Semi Noob here. Been running a plex media server from my Synology DS920+ for a year and half and now I cant even get the server to run. I manually shuts down every time I try to run it from the installed package center. I have no idea what to do, or what terms to search for on this forum. Always the problems with forums, you don’t know what you don’t know.
Any Advice?

@rhard80

Using FileStation,

  1. Navigate: PlexMediaServer/Appdata/Plex Media Server
  2. Right-Click “Logs” → “Compress to Logs.zip”
  3. Download the ZIP
  4. Attach here.

We’ll see what it doesn’t like.

Thanks for the Barney Style instructions. I do really need that type of help.

Your database is pretty ‘borked’.

You turned off DEBUG logging (saves nothing but does make life harder) so I can’t see what is really going on.

Pandora in the Plex logs ? That’s a new one.

What happened to the Syno.

This is either an abrupt power off or similar failure.

Doesn’t matter what / how it happened but please do detail.

Not sure what happened. Last two weeks I tried to mirror my database with another synology at a different locations. That went seamless. Plex continued to work just fine for the next 8 days. Today I tried to log in and required an update. That is when the stuff hit the fan.

If nothing else, how do I start from scratch. I have uninstalled and re-installed PMS multiple times but I can not get rid of the library file on my synology without being able to run PMS.

How do you start from scratch ?

  1. Uninstall the package ( Package Center )
  2. Choose the ERASE option.
  3. Complete uninstalling the software
  4. DSM will cleanup the space used in a few minutes.

When you install again,

  1. Install Package
  2. Use the Plex Claim Token option
    – Click the hyperlink
    – COPY the token
    – PASTE back into the installer form
    – NEXT NEXT DONE
  3. Wait for install to complete and claim (it will show your username)

Back in business, running like a charm. Understanding the log didn’t reveal anything, any best guess as to why this happened?

Either way, thank you so much for the support. I have your notes written down for possible future catastrophes.

Without seeing the logs, my best :man_shrugging: is all I can offer, sorry

Glad you’re running again.

For future ref:

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Have HyperBackup make a backup (hbkp) of the “PlexMediaServer” shared folder somewhere.

Now you’re golden. If you ever need to recover, restore that backup. Restore is flawless.
