After the last update, I can’t play anything anymore. Always “Playback Error” or “Playback Error Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.” When I don’t receive an answer, the items load “forever”. The computer where the server is located is connected via ethernet cable.
I can no longer play any media on any device.
My server is on a Windows 7 computer, I configure it using a Macbook (Plex Web), watch it via a Samsung TU8000 SmarTV (with Tizen system) and a Xiaomi Mi Box S (with Android TV), I also use it on an iPhone XR. I cannot play media on any of these devices.
Re-create the problem.
Play a video on one of the devices. Choose a video that should direct play. Disable subtitles if enabled.
Let it play until you receive the error message.
Pull the log files and post them to the thread (drag the zip file into the message window).
Plex cannot read the files. That eventually results in the transcoder failing.
This type of message repeats ~250 times in the Plex Media Server.log files for multiple episodes: May 15, 2021 22:26:21.267 [9812] ERROR - An error occurred reading the file: Z:\BECO DIAGONAL - TV\Super Sentai\Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger (2019)\Episódio 46.mkv (9).
What is Z:\ - a hard drive, a network mount, external USB drive, something else?
Check the integrity of the drive, the network connection, etc. depending whether it is a drive, network mount, etc.
Also, you should name your files according to Plex standards. It will help with naming and organization. Plex is very picky with TV shows. If you stray from the standards you will have trouble. See Your Media → TV Show Files (Naming and Organizing).
.../TV Shows <-- The TV Show library points here. Exact name unimportant.
....../Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger
........./Season 01 <-- "Season" must be in English
............/Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger - s01e01.mkv
PMS on the Shield is very different from PMS on Windows. Suggest you open a thread in the server-nvidia-shield section. It will get more Shield specific views that way. Be sure & include log files.
The nomenclature of the episodes has never been a problem, since I use plex, I name files for a single season that way. The reading unit is an external hard drive connected to the computer, always has been. It never gave such a problem, only after the last update. I was not the only one to have problems like that after this last update.
PS: At some times, the media playback works normally, but then it starts to show errors. For example, I was able to watch that same episode that I tried to play before and I couldn’t.
If I never had this kind of problem and after the last update I start to have and see reports of people who have also updated and are having similar problems, it is quite obvious where the problem is.
