I can only access my media on MyCloud Home with Plex if I have a VPN ON

As the title suggests I can only access my media on my wifi if I have a VPN ON.
This applies to iMac, MacBook Pro and Sony Bravia.
Strangely enough my iPad doesn’t need the VPN on to access
Any ideas guys?
