I want to add a 2 part TV show in a sub-folder to the TV Shows folder and the only way I can get it to work is to delete the entire collection, put the new folder folder in with the other folders and reinstall the whole collection. But that takes a while. Does anyone know if there is a simpler way?
I’ve tried “scan library files” but it does nothing
you can type an example or attach a screenshot…
Plex can be quite picky when it comes to naming and folder structures – in particular when it comes to tv shows.
Usually you should not need to add individual folders for tv shows – all you do is link the Plex library to the folder that contains the tv show folders.
Example
TV Shows <- this folder is linked to your Plex library
Game of Thrones
Season 01
Game of Thrones - s01e01 - optional episode title.ext
Game of Thrones - s01e02.ext
...
Show Name
Season XX
Show Name - sXXeYY.ext
...
Edit:
with that structure… all it takes for Plex to pick up new episodes or shows is to click on Scan Library Updates within Plex.
I’ve now added a few movies to the main movie folder and to the genre subfolders but the “scan library files” command won’t bring them in. I’ve searched to see if there is any naming protocol for movies like you described above for TV Shows but I cannot find anything. Any idea what I’m doing wrong this time?
I’ve changed my file names to include the year now as suggested but it still isn’t working. I have an overall root directory “Handbrake” which contains the sub-directories “TV Shows” and “Movies”. Within the “Movies” directory I have .mp4 movie fils and a few subdirectories for genres. I’ve added some extra ,mp4s to both the Movies and the Genre specific directories but when I scan the library it doesn’t pull any of the new files in. I must be doing something wrong but I cannot understand what?
If you insist on Genre sub directories, then the Movies still need to be organised in this way within those sub directories and the Genre sub directories added to the library, not the root Movie directory.
I’ve just moved the ,mp4 files into sub-directories named the same as the file so my path is now:
G:Handbrake/Movies/The Day After (1983)/The Day After (1983).m4v
“Scan library files” still doesn’t pick them up, Also when the scan runs it only seems to last about one second whereas when I run the scan on the TV Shows library it takes about six seconds - I don’t know if that’s relevent or not.
