Jumping on this thread to add an example of TVDB (DVD Order) not working properly for me. In the show “I, Claudius” Episodes 3-5 are drawing from some other ordering
I think the problem is with the external IDs on TMDB. TMDB & TVDB aired both have episode one as 90 minute episode. TVDB (DVD) had this first episode split into two.
I tried matching up the TMDB external IDs to the TVDB episodes and it looks like those episodes are pointing to the wrong TVDB episodes.

I think if those external IDs are corrected, I think it will fix the DVD episode ordering.
And what do you have to click on to keep the alignment of pasted text intact?
and btw, I set up a test folder and I’m seeing the same thing.
TheTVDB DVD order does appear to be incorrect on our end. I have reported to our metadata team.
FYI… the external ids linking the episodes on tmdb to the ones on tvdb were incorrect for a number of episodes. I’ve gone and fixed these so give it 48-72 hours for these changes to make it into plex and then force refresh the show. That should fix the problem.
Thanks for confirming what I was thinking. I’m slowly learning how these things work, lol!
NP. I bet tvdb reordered the episodes at some point to support both aired and DVD which invalidated some of the ids tmdb had, resulting in them getting out of wack.
I did a Refresh Metadata on my I, Claudius test folder and it is now matching correctly to the TVDB (DVD) episode ordering
Hi, I’m experiencing what I think is the same issue with Spider-Man: The New Animated Series 2003 tvdb 78416. In my files, I have it ordered as it appears on the DVD, and as TVDB lists the DVD order. However, in Plex, with the ordering set to TVDB (DVD), it does not give this order.

At tmdb the external ids linking the episodes from tmdb to tvdb are missing. This is why episode reordering is not working.
You can fix this yourself by adding them. If you cannot I’ll do it myself when I get back to my pc, probably tomorrow.
EDIT: external ids added for all episodes, give it 48/72 hours and then try the tvdb ordering again.
Thanks! Would’ve never realised that was even a thing. It hasn’t fixed it yet even after refreshing metadata and changing to different orders then back to TVDB (DVD), but I’ll wait the time like you said and check again.
I refreshed the metadate on my test folder and it looks like the DVD order is working now
