Show not matching the TVDB Aired order

Seen similar problems in other posts, but it seems like every fix only corrects whatever show is being posted about.
Having a problem with Plex matching a show with the TVDB Aired order. The show is Henry Danger (TVDBid-284114). To get any potential questions out of the way, my naming conventions are correct, and the episodes are all numbered and named the same as what’s on the TVDB. I changed the episode ordering for the series to TheTVDB (Aired) after the default PLEX agent wasn’t matching correctly. I do have metadata in the files, but it all matches the episodes correctly and I don’t have Use Metadata turned on.

Having similar problems in every season, but I’ll just list the first issue as it’s indicative of what’s happening. In season 1, I have the following episodes:

Henry Danger - s01e01 - The Danger Begins (1).mkv

Henry Danger - s01e02 - The Danger Begins (2).mkv

Henry Danger - s01e08 - The Space Rock.mkv

Henry Danger - s01e09 - Birthday Girl Down.mkv

Henry Danger - s01e10 - Too Much Game.mkv

… (all 26 episodes as listed in the TVDB)

Everything is matched fine for the 1st 8 episodes, then episode 9 is matched as Too Much Game (which is episode 10). It still points to and plays episode 9, and every episode until the end of the season is matched that way (10 plays 10 but has the episode name and metadata for 11, etc.) Then episodes 25 and 26 are both named Jasper’s Real Girlfriend. Actually, looking now at the episode descriptions, they are different than TVDB as well, and 25 and 26 have the same name but different images and descriptions.

I’ve tried doing the PLEX dance and even tried naming them to match the PLEX agent series order and using that Agent. But nothing seems to fix the problem.

I know I could manually go in and edit every episode, but that seems like such a hassle when errors show up in every season.

Another example in Season 5, I have Henry Danger - s05e03-e04 - Thumb War.mkv which gets matched correctly on episode 3, but episode 4, which still points to the same file and says episode 4 has the name and data from episode 5.

Haven’t had this issue with any other series so far so not sure why it’s not matching correctly.

I looked at the first season on TMDB and only about 6 or so episodes have TVDB external IDs entered. Without those, Plex won’t be able to show the TVDB ordering.

Where do you see that? I just went to TMDB and clicked EDIT. As I was scrolling through the episodes (at least through Season 1), they all had TVDB IDs entered and seemed to be pointing to the correct episodes.

Well, that is a good question, I just went and looked again and there are external ID’s for all of season 1. I just looked at the edit history and it looks like the last edits were on 1/29. Now I’m questioning my sanity. Since there were recent edits on TMDB, perhaps they just haven’t made it into Plex yet.

That’s my fault. Similar to Wrong episode order for Detective Conan from TheTVDB (both Aired and DVD) - #6 by DTR, I ran a script to find all the episodes without TVDB IDs, then found a way to speed up the process of actually making the changes. I then forgot to update this thread to let people know I added them. Oops.

I don’t think it shows up if you look at the show-level changes, but it should show up on the episode’s edit history: Henry Danger: Season 1 - Jasper Danger (2014) - (S1E6) - Changes — The Movie Database (TMDB).

LOL! Ok, thanks for explaining. I’m feeling a little better about my brain now.

I did go back and look at S01E06. I think that was the first one I saw that had a missing ID and I could see the change was a TVDB ID added on 2/4. Now I know I’ll have to look a bit deeper. for that info.

Hmmm… so if they were added a week ago, how long should it take for those changes to show up on PLEX? I was assuming PLEX just looked at the TVDB if you chose that for episode ordering. I guess I was wrong. Apparently, it involves checking TMDB, cross referencing it with the TVDB and then sending that information to a database on PLEX?

Weird thing was, I also tried changing all the episode numbers to match the PLEX information for the series at Henry Danger - Plex and then used the default PLEX Series Agent. While that fixed certain matches, other episodes suddenly didn’t match correctly. That’s when I changed everything back to the TVDB ordering and figured I come on here to try and find out why it wasn’t working correctly.

Well, the episodes that were just updated yesterday will need a few days to get their metadata ingested by Plex.
I’m going to set up a test folder so I can test some things and track this.

Ahhh… OK I see that now. Hopefully it will sort itself out and I will have learned something new :slightly_smiling_face:

ok, first thing I noticed and what is probably really throwing off your matches, is the TMDB list s01e01 as The Danger (45 min) whereas TVDB has it split as S01E01 and S01E02. I’m not exactly sure how Plex is going to resolve this. I think every episode will be one off.

I was hoping the DVD episode ordering might help out but they all look unassigned.

I think what you’ll need to do is create a directory called “Henry Danger -s01e01” and copy your your s01e01 & s01e02 into that directory. You’ll need to rename them to Henry Danger - s01e01 - The Danger Begins (1).- Part1 & Henry Danger - s01e01 - The Danger Begins (1).- Part2

then rename your s01e03 .. 26 to s01e02 .. 25
At least that is what I foresee will need to happen

I have have spoken too soon, looks like you may not need to do that part1 & part2 think.
I selected TVDB (aired) order and it is showing s01e01 & s01e02 as the 2 part Danger epiodes

Actually looks like it is matching the first 8 episodes so far then get are getting 1 off. I’ll give it a few days and do a refresh and see what it looks like then

I don’t think time will fix this problem. Definitely something else going on.

Here’s a pdf of how the episodes are named, how the TVDB and TMDB number the shows and how they show up in PLEX. Worth noting that all the episodes will play in PLEX and are linked in order, the ones in red just have the wrong descriptions.

Try doing a Refresh Metadata. I just did and I have TVDB (aired) ordering selected and looks like S1 is matching. If I remember correctly, S1 is the only one I added the TVDB external IDs to on TMDB.

Yup. Took a little longer than I thought it would, but that seems to have fixed the problem. For anyone else who comes across this post, the solution was to make sure TMDB has external IDs linking to the TVDB.

Thanks for the help! Seems strange that it works that way, but happy that it works :slightly_smiling_face:

Yeah, took a little longer than I expected but not out of the ordinary. Some changes seem to get picked up quickly, some seem to drag on.
The need for external IDs became important with the new Plex Agent implementation. There have pros and cons with this but for the most part, when the correct info is there, it works.

I took a quick look late last night and there are definitely some more missing IDs for other seasons. I’ll go through today and verify/add the other season IDs.

Ok, TMDB has been updated, now it’s a waiting game.

I did a metadata refresh tonight and it looks like S2-S5 are now matching the TVDB aired ordering.
