I have 1 movie, that plex refuses to recognize

Server Version#: Version 1.22.2.4282
Player Version#: 4.55.0

Summer Rental will not get detected on PMS. I have renamed the files a bunch of times, and it doesn’t show up. Here is a snip it from the log.

Apr 16, 2021 01:19:27.387 [0x7f7081ffb700] DEBUG - Scanner: Processing directory /mnt/plex/Plex/Movies/Summer.Rental.1985.1080p.H264-FGT (parent: yes)

I then grabbed a copy online just to test it, and these are what the logs are saying about this copy, yet this one doesn’t show up either.

Why is this file being skipped? It is behaving like this movie is in the library, but it is not.

Due to your naming - and that embedded Title Field that Plex is preferring - which is the same as that crappy file name - Plex has probably Mismatched it and it’s now Merged with another Movie… since Plex couldn’t identify it by that crappy file name. <— and guessed wrong.

The Slow Way:
Go to the Movie Library in question. Filter for Duplicates. Hunt down Summer Rental, Split, then Fix Match on it.

The Fast Way:
Remove Summer Rental from the Library.
Name it properly.
Remove the Embedded Title Field - or deny Plex the ability to read it (see below).

Here’s how Filebot named mine - for an instant, first time match:

The LMA Hack - Old Agents:

The LMA Hack - New Agent:
Edit the Library/Advanced/Disable: Prefer Local Metadata - like I have (new TV Show Agent in a testing library):

For the record - I don’t have issues like this:

FileBot: https://www.filebot.net/ <—creates a perfect file name 'cause it goes to their database and uses they name they use and I have denied Plex’s ability to peer inside my MP4/M4V files to prefer a Bogus Name buried in the file that bears little in common with the real file name required.

The Plex Dance is highly recommended at this point - 'cause we never know what Plex is going to hang on to like it’s life depended on it: Plex can’t hang onto something if it’s Bundle is gone:

Thanks for the reply @JuiceWSA .

I had already tried filtering for duplicates, but there isn’t one. In fact there are no summer rental movies to delete either.

I am going to try it out with filebot now. Sorry for the delay, been a crazy few days here!

Thanks!

Have you tried the second suggestion? Seriously, it would be a lot easier for you to remove the actual file from the directory, rescan the library, name the file properly as Summer Rental (1985).mp4 then copy it back into the directory and scan the library again if that’s the only file you’re having problems with.

Yep - I would absolutely not neglect to Demote LMA - denying Plex the ability to screw this up with an embedded Title Field. <—BEFORE any correct naming occurs.

Ok, I have tried both methods and neither seems to work. The strange part here is, plex doesn’t even create a media item that I can then associate, it just ignores the file.

Here is the latest log snip it and you can see that it finds the file, but it never actually adds it to the library.

The scanner logs look just like a movie that exists, so there doesn’t appear to be anything wrong.

Thanks guys for all your help!

I found the issue…It was showing as a duplicate (I had looked before) but I had thought it was expected behavior. I have several comedies that have multiple disks, so it shows 2 up there, and I am not sure how to fix that. Anyways, for some reason it was associated with one, and I just thought it was the other disk.

Sorry guys for the wild goose chase! Now at least things are making sense again!

I don’t suppose you know how to publish a multiple disk comedy show, so that it doesn’t just treat it as a duplicate?

Brad
