i have no sound with plex on fire stick

What can I do to fix this problem

I’m having the same issue. Haven’t changed anything with my setup. Movies will have background music but the dialog is gone, it’s like it’s muted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have this same problem. Dialog audio is gone

Same, I have this problem too. I have two FireTV Sticks on two different TVs (LG and Vizio) and I have the same issue with x264 and x265 video files. Background audio works (music, sound effects, etc) but no dialogue audio. Both FireTV sticks just got updated to Plex version 4.16.2.475. It was working prior to the update and now none of my content works. Please fix this ASAP!

Does anyone know of a way to downgrade and disable the stupid auto-updates?

I’m also having this problem on some files, but not others. (Using Fire TV Stick).

Same here. Most of the audio is gone. Playback is not usable. Update ruined all operational functionality.

Same problem. Also, the video stops after 15 or 20 seconds. Was flawless before the update. Anyone happen to know the prior version #?

Though not directly related to the current hiccup (which appears to have been caused by this last updated), these two posts might help some of you.

Steps in these got one TV working for me, since it supports Dolby Digital. But my other TV is older and doesn’t support 5.1, 6 channel audio, or Dolby Digital on the HDMI port.

There’s also a discussion behind the premium wall: http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/198109/voices-gone-on-firetv-stick

I rolled back to Plex 4.15.0.464 and the audio is fine. It is definitely something with the most recent update.

Can you provide a link to where you got this version? I downloaded an android version and when I try to push it with adbfire I get [INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE]

Make sure that you enable unknown sources in the developer menu and uninstall the new version before trying to install.

edit: and you won’t get an icon on the home screen. you’ll have to launch from the settings > applications menu.

Perfect that worked! When I uninstalled the first time I chose ā€œKeep app dataā€. Uninstalling without keep the data allowed me to install the old version.

Do you know of a way to disable automatic app updates? At least until this issue is resolved.

I don’t unfortunately. I’m hoping that since it was sideloaded the firestick won’t try to auto-update. We shall see I guess.

Same issue here… Low-end TV that apparently doesn’t support 5.1+ input so only getting R/L and no Center/Dialog channel on 5.1 files. Changing the AFS audio settings to DD+ Off doesn’t help either, so I guess we’re stuck until there’s another update.

Sideloading the old version works but the app won’t let me play from my Plex Media Server.

When playing a show it prompts with ā€˜Until activated, playback from a Plex Media Server to this app will be limited to a minute . . .’ I select ā€˜sign in’ and enter the username and password for my Plex account but as soon as play back begins, it prompts again.

Anyone else experience this?

Same here. Guess we’re stuck waiting for an update.

Exact same symptoms here. Files that previously worked on the Fire Stick now have no dialog track. Same problem on both of my TVs.

Fortunately some of the shows are also on Hulu so that’s what we’re doing for now. Hope Plex fixes the bug/regression soon!

Beating a dead horse here, but same problem. 5.1 source files will not play audio (DTS, etc). I’m glad these threads are popping up now, I was searching all night last night for a solution, nobody had complained about it yet so I thought it was on my end.

@mrage & @jayfromm
You need a Plex Pass account to be able to signin on a side loaded version.

.

For anyone comfortable side loading, here’s the alternate I’m looking into at the moment: http://www.htpcbeginner.com/kodi-and-plex-integration-with-plexbmc-addon/

Not sure if this will work for everyone, but I got the sound working by doing the following:

  • Go into settings
  • Audio
  • Uncheck Dolby Digital (AC3)
  • Uncheck Dolby Digital Plus (EAC3)

Obviously I haven’t tried everything, but the files that had no sound now have sound (Peppe Pig for the kids!!)
