i have no sound with plex on fire stick

The problem I have isn’t from the Dolby Digital settings. I have always had the DD settings unchecked on this TV cause it doesn’t support DD. Maybe this latest version doesn’t honor those settings.

This is an issue with the latest Plex app for FireTV. Sideloading seems to be the only real solution to this, however, not all of us know how to do this. Plex seems to be ignoring this issue, because more people is actually complaining about the same and no one in Plex seems to be doing anything.

I suggest we all tweet @plex in Twitter, that way all of us (specially the ones who have PAID for Plex Pass) can get the support and get a new corrected version in Android Fire Stick ASAP.

Wow, thank god I found this thread…

I’ve had this issue the last 2 days with my Fire Stick, I was about to lose my mind. I have tried every trick up my sleeve, nothing!

Will try sideloading the older version, but seriously, this needs a fix asap! Please guys.

Cheers.

This fixed it for me: https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/3beeoj/plex_to_amazon_fire_stick_no_dialogue_audio_but/cxw00nv

It will work only if the audio of the current video you have is not a 5.1 audio for example, it actually depends on how your video’s audio was encoded. In my case, a movie that before worked just perfectly it now will have the entire musical background with no issues but the voices will hear like 90% lower than the music (basically can’t hear them).

Also, Plex actually recommends the exact opposite: to turn off these settings to supposedly fix the issue. The link you shared might help to some users and and in some cases but not all of them and unfortunately it’s not a fix, Plex needs to take care of this.

It’s that it is now pushing the audio across 6 channels, so if your TV doesn’t support DD, you aren’t getting the center (voice) channel.

To let folks know:

The team is investigating this and hoping to get a resolution out as quickly as possible. Apologies for the inconvenience.

I can confirm that I am having the same issues also. Currently using the Kodi/Plex workaround but the interface is nowhere near as good as the Plex app. Hoping for a fix to this ASAP.

Worked around it by sideloading the older version. Looking forward to a fix.

Thanks so much for the update!

I can provide you example files that don’t work if you need any.

I already had KODI sideloaded on the Fire Stick, so I just installed PLEXMBC within KODI, along with the Amber Skin, and voila, up and running just great until an update arrives. PLEXMBC uses the Kodi player, but accesses the Plex files.

Hi All,

I just wanted again to say sorry about this issue. We believe that it was caused by the fact I mistakenly tested the changes on a Fire TV Stick which had a different version of Fire OS that is released to the public. I’m sorry again, it shouldn’t have happened.

I hope that we’ve identified the issue and fixed it. We’re starting the release process as soon as possible, but if anyone can try and sideload the new APK (available here), and confirm it’s resolved the issues, i’d really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance
Ian

That’s great - thanks! Could you let us know when the release has been confirmed please?

The release has already been submitted, so it’s up to Amazon to review and release it (not something over which we have control). https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1082993/#Comment_1082993

Sideloaded new apk and did not resolve audio issues. Still no voices on 5.1 audio tracks with Firetv Stick OS 5.0.3.2. Tried all different audio options.

Hi, if you’re running the Fire OS beta (which I believe you are since you’re running OS 5.0.3.2), please navigate to the video player options within the application and uncheck the AC3/EAC3 options.

Unchecked the AC3/EAC3 options still no voice track with Fire OS 5.0.3.2 (that is the version on the new Firetv Stick that was just released with voice remote) running through tv speakers. Do have voices and 5.1 audio if running through Surround Sound Receiver in different room if boxes are unchecked. If AC3/EAC3 boxes are checked just get static through Surround Sound Receiver or TV speakers. Also tested on 1st gen Firetv Stick with Developer Fire OS 5.0.3 (believe that is the beta for that stick) with exact same results. I can confirm that the fix does work on 1st gen Firetv Sticks with Software Version 54.1.2.3_user_123067020.

Installed the new version, … 84, Yes, it did resolve the issue. However, the APK you linked to is for Pass Subscriber’s only, not the regular purchase customers. I guess we will have to wait til Amazon pushes the update through or post the new version.

Yes, the APKs we make available are only usable by Plex Pass subscribers; to be activated from a Google Play or Amazon purchase, the app has to be installed through that store. Ian had simply suggested that if someone (necessarily a Plex Pass subscriber) could sideload it on a device running the non-beta Fire OS and verify that it resolved things, that would be beneficial.

BTW, just got done contacting Amazon. They are checking the new version, and will release it very soon, once it gets cleared … auto push if you have it turned on for auto updates …
