I’m a new member, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I’m scratching my head on this one. Been using Plex happily for a while, read the email the other day about the new version of the LG app, so paid for a lifetime membership so I can get the preview.
My LG TV has version 3.13.28 of the Plex app and is running WebOS 3.8.0
I read the instructions and it says the Plex app version needs to be at least 4.29.7 to be able to opt into early access - what I can’t work out is how do I upgrade my player from 3.13.28 to 4.29.7? There’s nothing updateable in the LG Content Store, so I am assuming I have to download something to a USB stick and update it manually or something, but I can’t find anywhere to download 4.29.7
Like I say probably missing something obvious so I’m sorry if this is a stupid question
I’ve a B7 OLED. It has webOS 3.8 & is running the preview version (which is very nice, btw).
The version shown in the LG Contents Store is not the real version of the app. It is basically a framework that lets Plex push updates to the TV when one is available (I’m sure somebody from Plex can explain that better).
Right, I’m saying because they’re running webOS 3.8 (webOS 3.5 + updates) the only reason they wouldn’t be able to access the updated app and preview is because it’s FHD, not UHD.
We typically refer to it as a shortcut, which rarely changes so it rarely gets updated, it just tells the TV where to go to load the app that you see.
Thanks very much for the responses, much appreciated. its FHD so that explains that, I must have missed it in the instructions. Not a problem, the main reason I was interested is that the font on the current LG app is too small for me, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to increase the size, but I have a roku and the Plex app on that is excellent so I’ll use that in the meantime until I reach the point where I have to get a new TV.
Just out of interest (curiosity is a terrible thing!) is there a reason why you’re not making the new version backwards-compatible? I imagine I’m not the only person who doesn’t plan on upgrading to UHD in the near future, is it a compatibility thing? If you don’t mind my asking of course
The previous app was never enabled for FHD devices because those devices couldn’t run the app smoothly (it ran, but not well enough to be considered usable). Eventually we hope to bring this new app to those FHD devices, but it’s not available for preview.
