It seems like no matter what settings I change or what Agents I mess with, Plex continues to pull external trailers. I’m trying to test something with my local trailers, and I can’t do that without being able to force only those trailers.
Admittedly a SWAG, but have you tried editing a library, click on advanced, de-select “Find extras & trailers automatically.” You might have to refresh library metadata to get rid of any existing links to online trailers, etc.
Same setting is also in the Plex Movie agent in Settings -> Agents.
Alright I got it working. Thanks everyone for all your help. Now I’m able to download my own current trailers and have those play instead of trailers for movies that are actually in my own library, or the same 5 trailers that Plex plays on shuffle.
What I ended up having to do was:
Disable all settings for automatic trailers in the Extras settings, Plex movie agent, and the movie library advanced settings
Download YouTube playlists of trailers (easiest way to get a large number for me)
Rename the trailers to match a movie in your library using the MovieName Trailer#1.mp4 format
The subdirectories were kind of tricky. You have to use the Plex subdirectory format, except your 2nd folder in cannot contain the year in the title. So it would look kind of like:
\Movies
\MovieName
\Movie Name 2018
MovieName.mkv
\Trailers
MovieName Trailer#1.mp4
Then refresh the metadata for all the movies you added trailers to, restart PMS just to be safe, and now the new trailers should play
