Plex installs fine on the Orange Pi Plus. I have a prepared image for the Orange Pi Plus (Ubuntu 14.10 here) and it is of course better than Raspberry Pi 2 since it has faster RAM and CPU cores plus gigabit ethernet and SATA.

Thanks for the comment.
I will order the orange from china then… It will take 3 weeks to my place. Btw does minibian work on orange? I want to make it like my rpi2 pms that automatically enter kodi when booting while others service is running on the background.
And for the transcode thingy, it wont be a problem since i use kodi on all client.
Btw did you guys ever tried the mini pc with intel z series? Like pipo x8…
I was curious about how pms will work on those mini pc. Same as pms on rpi2, no transcode power needed because im using kodi or pht as client.
@alveox I am not aware that Kodi is fully running on the Orange Pi on Linux distros (on Android it works with hardware acceleration) so if you are planning to run Kodi then wait before Kodi is confirmed working on the Orange Pi H3 devices if you plan to run it as a combo unit. Alternatively you could get the Orange Pi Plus as a server running debian and then an Orange Pi PC to run Kodi on Android.
Sorry to just butt in randomly, but I have a quick question. I want to set up a plex server on a micro computer like the raspberry pi2. After some research I’ve seen a few options could be better than running it on the Pi. Would it be best to go with a Raspberry pi 2? or an orange pi plus? Or an Odroid xu4? Or would there be another option to look into??

If you use the machine only for plex media server, orange pi plus is the best
But if you use couple app like kodi on the same machine, rpi2 is the answer…
@blindpet
Did the cheapest orange pi (15 usd) capable to run pms?
Yes @alveox the Orange Pi PC runs Plex. I tested it a few days ago and will publish the guide for it (you can still follow the Pi 2 guide though). Use loboris’s images, I have posted one on mega running Ubuntu 14.10 which will be shared soon too.
@blindpet
Cool… How the performance? Is it like pms on rpi2?
Im planning to make pms with rutorrent on it.
I scrap orange pi plus order because kodi wont work on it.
It is better on the RPi2 because it has faster CPU cores. Kodi doesn’t work with hardware acceleration on the Orange Pi PC yet (only Android). I would recommend having a separate server for PMS and rutorrent then a separate client running Kodi though.

Hi alveox, how can u access your pms with a kodi client? Do have a second kodi installed with PleXBMC Addon ?
There was an update on Plex Media Player. In the blog I see this .
Truly cross-platform, with hardware acceleration, even on a Raspberry Pi 2. (How does a lovely 1080p UI on the Pi sound?)
Are they releasing a official RPI2 version of the server software? Just curious.

OSMC or kodi is better for me, because i love superepo to much…
and one more thing is with kodi based player, i can use so many skin to customize the gui.
I have PMS running on my PI2. I have a question about auto-mounted drives and giving access to the ‘plex’ user. The drives auto-mount to the ‘/media/pi/DRIVE’ location. When I browse to add library in Plex, there is no access to that location.
I added ‘plex’ user to the pi, and sudo groups, but still no access. What do you think?

So you are already using my repo (dev2day.de)?
Hi !
I’m using this repository for my PMS on minibian.
Just to be sure, doing the upgrade today made it to 9.12.13, but on the web interface it says 9,12,18 is the next best thing, is the repository up to date ?

uglymagoo updates the repo manually I believe so you just have to be patient

0.9.12.18 only went public today, he can only put public releases in the repo, keeps Plex Inc happy.
