I made SlickRemote for Plex free (and I'm happy to open source it if you guys want)

I’m the developer of SlickRemote for Plex. It’s available for free in the Android Market. I don’t know Java, so I know the program could be a lot better and I will be happy to open source the app if anyone is interested. I’ll even MIT license the code (so you can do with it as you please with no limits). Just let me know.

Update:

App is now open source and available on GitHub @ http://github.com/jetshred/SlickRemote-for-Plex-Android

Nice application, You could add dual functionality on a button to reduce clutter (number of buttons) i.e Skip/ffw could be comined on one button using long press. Does it work on QVGA androids (i.e X10 mini/pro) ?

Finally; a free remote. Even better; opensource version of it!

I get my Desire next week and will test it. Thanks a lot.

Anyone want to port this for iPhone? I’d be down to donate a few dollars and I’m sure there are other people out there interested.

Update: iPhone app submitted to app store, look a down several posts for more info.

I’m trying to learn iPhone development and I have been playing around with a cleaner looking version of this for the iPhone. At this point I have no idea on a timeline for when it will be done or whether or not I will release it.

Awesome, thanks for this! I'm going to check it out this weekend. I'm interested in learning Android development, so this is great. :)

i am currently using SlickRemote and i love it. the only concern that i have is that the three buttons at the bottom of the screen are partially cut off. I am using a HTC Desire from US Cellular. is there a way that i can fix this?

I'll look into it.

I would also pay a few bucks to help get this for iphone.

It just so happens that you're in luck, and it will only cost you one buck. I submitted SlickRemote to the App Store late Tuesday night. As soon as Apple approves it, it will be for sale in the store. It's completely rewritten from the ground up. The iPhone app is similar to the Android app only in that I made both and chose to keep the same name. However, it required a lot of time and effort on my part so it will not be free or open source (at least not in the foreseeable future anyway). Initially, it will cost $0.99. Here are some screenshots of the app.

Features:
- Hi-res graphics for Retina Display
- Back button actually works like you think it would in Plex
- Volume steps up and down properly (not just two steps like some other apps)
- Toolbar buttons (Context Menu, Update Library, On Screen Display, Fullscreen toggle)

And since this is a thread about Android:

I know that the Android app is in major need of an update (especially when compared to the iPhone version). This week I made several bug fixes and the update should be ready soon. That being said, I have not yet changed anything to me like the iPhone version you see in the previous post. It will be the current app plus volume control. I haven’t had access to a hardware device for testing until recently so that has made development difficult.

I’d like to keep the codebase open source. However, to have something like the iPhone version will require a lot of work and time so it would have to be monetized. I’m thinking I could keep the current version free( and open source) and create a separate app called SlickRemote Pro that would cost a buck or so. Let me know what you guys think.
