aRemote - New application for android

Hi Guys,

Just got the aRemote for Plex up on android market, go check it out.

It’s basic but it looks good and it’s pretty fast.

Feedback is welcome as always

I’ll be sure to check it out if I get an Evo, but that will require the new iPhone in June to severely suck too.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

I am trying this out right now and will report any bugs.

THANKS.

Hi guys, I found a bug or two that i have fixed.
i also added the possibility to fast scroll in long lists. I'm going to test this out tonight and I'll roll out a new version a.s.a.p

That was going to be my only gripe about the app! Having several hundred movies it's hard to scroll through, but now that you're working on it, that's great. The app works well and looks great on my Droid. Haven't encountered any bugs in it myself, but will report if I do.

Thanks for trying it out.

I've updated the app on android market now so you should get an update notification soon.

Hi,

i got an error report stating that a security permission is needed. I haven’t seen this myself so I’m wondering of this only occurs on a special release of the android platform (i.e. 2.1).

I’ve tested it on several phones with diffrent software so if someone is experiencing these problems - please notify me =)

thanks,

p.s. Can’t wait for plex 9

Ok, Apparently android isn’t platform independent. The app is pulled from market until I can figure out why it doesn’t work on a specific manufacturers phones.

Works fine on Moto Droid, running CyanogenMod 5.0.6.2 (built from Android 2.1 source).

I've been using it all week and not one problem.

Lispher: Thats interesting, I’ve been getting 1 star rankings because it crashes at startup on Droids  (security permission) but since the droid ain’t sold in sweden I can’t verify that. Might be something with Motorolas original firmware?

Going to sort it out on the Tattoo tomorrow if I can reproduce the issue. When that’s fixed it’ll be back on the market

Ok, The app is back up on Android market.

I downloaded this application and I heard that this application is amazing but it’s not working for me. After each 5 secs it is keep on crashing.Don’t know what might be the problem but I will soon find the solution.

Hi Ken

What phone and android version are you using?
If you could install Log Collector (availible on market) and use it to send me the log just after you get the crash might help me to resolve the issue.

please mail the log to: tidiousapps@gmail.com

Thanks

Cool, thanks for this. Runs well on my Nexus One and connected without any problems.

I have a couple of (potentially) stupid questions:

  1. Is there any way to change the volume on the computer/Plex from the remote?

  2. What is the “Browse mode: Not available in this version” button about? Are you planning to add support for browsing the library in a later paid version of the app?

Hi Brian,

1. No, not right now. Might add it to the volume keys of the phone (but right now google has a note on that API requesting that devs shouldn't use volume keys for other stuff than controlling the phones volume(s).

2. Browsing is coming,if it's going to be in the free version or if we're going to release a paid version isn't anything we decided upon yet. Anyway browsing is a bit on hold since plex9 is just around the corner.

Glad you like aRemote, 'll try to find some time to work on the browsing part after my vacation :)

Cool, sounds good. There’s probably enough screen real estate for volume up/down buttons…

I take it by the ‘we haven’t decided yet’ comment that this is not currently open source? Do you have a sense if it’s going to go the paid route or the open-source route?

Brian

Hi,

Yes, on HVGA and larger screens there is real estate for volume keys but on smaller screens (QVGA) it can get crowded pretty fast

Regarding open source, Without going in to much detail, I don’t know if I’m allowed to (due to my employment agreement on my day job) to share the code.

Any updates on this? The app works great! Seems to be the only one I can get to work...

Also, would it be possible to implement keyboard support? It would be a very nice feature for search in the various plugins..

Hi,

No big updates are planned. I sort of lost interest when plex went “closed source” with the streaming API. I’m thinking about updating it with some features I’m testing at home.

I would love to see this app be able to use a bluetooth connection (to my mac mini) for communication instead of wifi.

Is this something you would like to add?

Best regards!
