I need an older version

Hello, I have a fairly old computer, whose operating system is macos 10.12.6 (I can’t update anymore). By mistake when hitting it from the tv, the latest version of plex was installed on the computer, which requires at least system 10.30.

I can’t find the installer on the official website to go back to an old version. Can anybody help me?

Look in the Updates folder in the Plex Data Folder.

Not sure about Macs, but on Windows, Plex keeps the installer for the last three versions in that folder.

Same on a Mac

Do you know a date or version number you are looking for? IE when did they drop support

I cannot find that version but the previous version is: https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server-new/1.31.2.6810-a607d384f/macos/PlexMediaServer-1.31.2.6810-a607d384f-universal.zip

This worked for me…

Thanks! That link worked, my plex is alive again!!

Because of other software compatibility issues, I can not upgrade my Mac past OS 10.11.6. I am currently running server version 1.31.1.6733, and everything seems to be working fine. Since the latest version does not support my operating system, the plan is just to leave everything alone. I’m assuming that will continue to work, as long as I don’t update the plex server software? Also, if I accidentally hit update, or something happens and it decides to automatically update – that’s happened with other software before – will it just not install or will it overwrite what’s there and then not work? Thanks.

@ytrecords

Keep a copy of 1.31.1.6733 as a backup, in case you need to reinstall for any reason.

Many people run PMS versions months or years old. It will continue to run as-is, but obviously no bug fixes, feature updates, etc. Any new client features dependent on a new PMS release will not be available.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. The site says that 1.31.3.6868 is the last version that works with my OS . . . should I upgrade to that and keep a copy around? Or was there not really much difference from .6733 to .6868?

Thanks again.

Because it appears I too belong to those left behind going forward on Plex updates I’m posting/replying to this thread with much of the territory I’d be needing help on already covered. I got the email saying our Mac Pro Tower running macOS 10.11 would no longer be supported with updates. Today, thinking the system would not be trying to update to a version that would foobar our server (which it did) I stupidly entered my password to let the update proceed. I’m kinda disappointed the updates have nothing in them to prevent a system that is not compatible with the update from being updated. So I’ll be paying more attention to NOT allowing the updates to proceed going forward. Still would be nice to not have to be in a position where I have to let them stack up. Fortunately I had a TM backup and I replaced the PLEX application and that made everything work again. I left what I assume are updated resources in ~/Application Support/… alone to see if replacing the app alone was enough and it seems to work fine again. I’ll be monitoring it for anything strange.

I’m going to update the hardware/OS ASAP but still it will take some time. We are going to move our 12+TB of content to a new system (a 2018 fully loaded Intel Mac mini – my existing personal desktop unit), buy an external thunderbolt raid storage unit for all the media, and replace my repurposed mini with the new mini M2 for my desktop.

This will take a good bit of time (and money) so I’m hoping things will keep working for our PLEX server. Hopefully we can continue to update the players on our other systems that have newer OSes with no obvious issues for a while OR should we hold off on updating those apps too for now?

See the release notes linked in my earlier post. Look over the bug fixes and new capabilities and see if any apply to your setup.

Use whichever version works best for you. You can always try 6868, then go back if you do not like it.

Thanks to everybody for the links, it will help in the event my server gets updated!

Which leads me to my question:
I there a way to completely disable the update function?
If my server will not run 1.32.x, why would the Plex software install the update?

Best

I’ve posted official links to the previous 1.31.3 versions for those affected. Plex Media Server support ending for older versions of Windows (7, 8, and 8.1), macOS (10.11, 10.12) - #4 by MovieFan.Plex

Does anyone still have PMS and installer logs from when this auto-updated? This should have been blocked from auto updating.

I am still receiving updates available while running on Windows 7. This notice is being pushed out to clients (Nvidia Shield’s). How do we stop this?

In addition, I was able to find and download the version I am running and the last supported version. That’s good, however, I am trying to find the release notes for both and I haven’t been able to.

I have looked in Announcements but was unable to find them .Can I get a link to the last two release notes that supporting Win 7?

Release notes are here Plex Media Server - #567 by gbooker02.

How do I install the update from the zip? Thanks

Unzip the file, you’ll get 1 resulting file. Drop that into the Application folder. Let it replace what you have already.
