I NEED to learn how to check behind myself before i delete data

OK Plex, I LOVE you, but we REALLY NEED this metadata to be editable. I currently have a movie that does nothing but match itself to another movie that has nothing to do with it. The only commonalities are that they are set at sea. That shouldnt send Plex into a death spiral of incorrect matching tho.
Before you ask, yes I do understand naming convention and use it. I dont feel however that I should have to reconfigure Plex in order to fix it, when being able to edit the cast info would solve the problem. This is a very simple request that users have been asking for FOR YEARS. It’s time we get it.
Lifetime subscriber, so Im only going to want this feature more in the future, and I will ask for it again. I know others want this feature as well.
Thank you, Plex.

No, it would not solve the problem. All it would do is to change tha cast for both movies.

How is your movie file named?
Is it in one common folder with other movies or does it have its own sub folder?
Is it a mp4 or m4v file?

mp4.
Still Filthy (2009)
So convert it away from that crap format and go with mkv? I hate mp4 anyway. Or what would you suggest?
also each movie is in its own folder, named the exact same way

Let me clarify:
External Drive> Movies (to point plex to )> Movie Name (Year)> No subfolders within, only media files
PLUS I got all of my info for both movies from IMDB for naming. So thats why I was confused. Also, you can change the director info for individual movie titles, why cant cast info be edited? Plex, while amazing, is not flawless.

Your folder and file names are perfect.

Are you downloading directly into your plex media folder?
If you do, don’t

It can also be that the file has (nonsensícal or ‘spammy’) embedded metadata. You must tell Plex to disregard it with the following configuration change:
Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Afterwards, perform the Plex Dance with the movie.

Is this some kind of documentary? The Plex Movie agent can only find data for ‘cinema movies’. You might have to use Fix Match and then pick The MovieDatabase as the metadata source.

Yeah, Im gonna convert it and just be done with it. IMBD finds it just fine tho: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2300878/
So you can see my confusion. Also did the dance with both files, just trying to see is one would do it over the other. Same result as soon as either movie was put back in the DB. Hell I even know how to get into properties and dump the bad file names out of the details tab so that they show correctly in the GUI. So I think conversion is my only real option now. I tried to reconfigure the IMDB and other agents like you said, and no change there either. Ugh. If I could just delete the incorrect cast info from the one movie it would so fix this SO easily.
The Bounty (1984)
with Still Filthy (cast)
Um. No, they arent in that movie. And both movies show up as part of a collection, which I did not ask nor tell it to do. So Im really confused as to why it’s doing this. I can manage the rest of my terabytes worth of media correctly within Plex, so why are these two movies doing this and no others are?

Inspect their embedded meta data (not with the Windows file properties but with software which shows them all, like mp3tag )
They probably both have the ‘Album’ tag set to the same value.

not an issue now… since i accidentally deleted it. way to go me.
