Apparently this request has been in the queue for over 5 years? Via the GUI (Windows PMS) I can edit Directors and Writers etc, but not Cast. Why on earth not? 90% of my movie library (all commercial movies, not home vids) is missing the Cast or has incorrect entries (like “MacX-DVD-Rip”). Simply ridiculous. Dev team, please fix asap as I’m sure it’s a minor issue (given you’ve already got the GUI edit page for Tags -> Directors, Country, Genres, Writers, Collections).
Same here…
Strange something so easy like the possibility to edit all the metadata info are not in plex…
Any external app for mac to do? Any solution for this? Any place to request?
I just started using Plex and thought I must have a corrupted version because I couldn’t edit the cast. WTF. FIVE years since the request was put it?!
8 months have gone by since my post and not a word from Plex.
Plex Team - that’s how you sour a good relationship with a customer, and any chance I will continue to recommend Plex to my family, friends, colleagues. Don’t ignore us.

I cannot tell you if this will be possible and when, but your description of the issue sounds to me, that your metadata agent config is not ideal.
Are you interested in a workaroud which will probaly give you more cast data than you can be bothered to input manually?
If so, please tell me which metadata agent you are using in your movie library?
(You can determine it by editing your library(s)) (then go to the ‘Advanced’ tab))
If it is ‘Plex Movie’, then you’re almost there.
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
If you have ‘Local Media Assets’ at the top of the list, grab it with your mouse and move it downwards, so it ends up below of the line ‘Plex Movie’
Do the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
plus, if it isn’t already, activate the line Plex Movie (you don’t need to move it, though)
Next, click on the small ‘cog wheel’ icon on the line named ‘Plex Movie’
Adjust the ‘Cast list source’ to read ‘The Movie Database’
Next, we’ll need a properly ‘matched’ movie. This means the movie has to have been recognised by Plex and matched to an entry in the IMDb.
You can tell by calling up a movie’s mediainfo XML. In there you seek for a key named guid= if this key contains something like com.plexapp.agents.imdb://tt2948356 then you’re all good.
If it contains com.plexapp.agents.themoviedb the movie is matched to TheMovieDatrabase directly, but that is just as well.
But if it contains om.plexapp.agents.none then the movie is unmatched. This needs to be corrected by using Match
If you have found a correctly matched movie, Refresh it.
If there are no errors in this process, this is how it looks like in the mediainfo XML of e.g. Star Wars - The Force Awakens (2016):

So you not only get a long list of actors in ‘billing order’ but also links to the portrait fotos of the actors.
These you can see already if you use the quicksearch in Plex Web or on the Plex app for the AppleTV4 and the Windows app store app.
Thank you, Otto. I really appreciate you taking the time to provide detailed feedback.
I cannot recall if I changed the order of the Agents fro the default install or not, but I can confirm that ‘Plex Movie’ is at the top of the ‘Plex Movie’ tab but wasn’t at the top of the ‘TheMovieDatabase’ tab (but is now).
I’ve refreshed my library and some movies have been 'matched that were not (as they now have basic Cast info). Some refuse to match for some reason. Dirty Grandpa is an unmatched example.
You can see the default Agent is ‘Plex Movie’. Auto Match doesn’t work, and trying all of the Search Options (one-by-one) doesn’t work either. But Dirty Grandpa 2016 exists in IMDB (it’s a recent movie).
I’ll see if this ‘right’s itself’ in the next 24 hrs.
Cheers,
Mark
Ok, issue fixed after I rebooted the Plex Server.

You can help Plex a bit by sticking more closely to the naming guide:
Dirty Grandpa (2016).avi
would’ve been better. That way title and release year are better separated and plex will know better which is which.

Would’ve probably sufficed to wait for a bit longer.
I would just like to get an update from a Plex support person as to if/when the ability to edit the metadata for the “Cast” will be available. I understand the numerous requests and working on keeping the product stable and updated, but this has been a user request for many years and would help so many in your customer base.
Thanks for all that you do to keep Plex great!
Hello Plex team:
There is still a need to edit the meta data for ‘Cast’ in Movies.
I’m not quite sure why you don’t just extend the existing editor to include cast members?
My main use for Plex is to collect sometimes very obscure movies, where even on Imdb there is hardly any information found (other than date of release). In particular when it comes to German films.
So why don’t you allow people to edit that data themselves? Like I can edit the title, year of release etc.
Why stopping short of cast members?
Can you PLEASE look into that?
