I wanna sue plex

I AM SUEING PLEX becuse they ARE GOING TO MAKE PLEX NOT FREE ENYMORE SO I WANT TO SUE BECUSE ITS GOING TO 5 POUNDS EVRY MOUNTH I THINK AND THEY SAID IT WILL ALLWAYS BE FREE SO IM GOING TO SUE THEM

Who said that and where?
Writing in all-caps seems popular these days, but doesn’t make you right.

I’m skeptical there’s a ā€œright to free productsā€ – though I’m confident you’ll find a lawyer who’ll happily take much more than the 5$ (or even the increased lifetime Plex Pass cost) to figure that out for you.

Edit: keep in mind… you can still use Plex for free. Just no longer to stream media remotely.

but they said it will allways be free

No they didn’t

I think we’re seeing the beginning of the greatest story ever told.

For the people that actually paid for the product, particularly ā€˜lifetime plex pass’ folks, this is PERFECT for a class action suite.

i have a lifetime plex pass and have been a lifetime plex pass user for a long time (close to 10 years now). And it always felt lik a a job more than just a user. Have been running multiple servers and ran into all kind of problems along the way and never once did anyone from the plex team help me out and it always turned out to be a update bug, without fail, like half of the channels in the dvr disappearing because incorrect xml names demand by the server etc. But now all of my phones (iOS) and tablets don’t play any live tv from my home network and from the outside network they do play the video but no sound. This is the primary use for my servers to have my live tv for my parents that are abroad. I am not even mentioning the stupid UI changes that make the dvr much more difficult to use (the stupid preview screen) that leaves only 3 channels epg visible etc. I feel so cheated and disrespected by plex especially since i have been a fan of it for so long (don’t really know why, maybe it’s because all the work i put in getting everything to work), i dont know … think jellyfin or emby is in my future. think it will be easier to get ma elderly parents to learn how to use a new app than to adapt to the unfunctional and illogical changes that they made with this relese, and that is assuming they fix the issues with the live tv and dvr on ios devices.. Just stupid

Plex is getting rid of the free personal remote streaming options of your own library unless you have a Plex Pass or their new ā€œRemote Watch Pass,ā€ so if you are sharing with a family member and they are streaming, they will need one of the two subscriptions now for remote access.

They’ve pretty much gone back on their word, and my guess is that, in fear of the FCC, they are always mistakenly getting confused as piracy software to stream content. Those people don’t really realise that you need the content on your PC first to stream on Plex. So, they’re having a bit of an identity crisis now by putting up Crackle for streams and stream rentals; they aren’t the Plex that we all knew before.

Quite frankly, I am disappointed in Plex for going this route. I share my personal library with my family only, and for them to get hit with either subscribe for a remote pass or a plex pass is a rip off to me.

I won’t be using Plex anymore, I may be switching to Emby or Jellyfin.

They will either gain new Plexpass members, or people will be dropping them, and they’ll be wondering why nobody is using Plex anymore for streams. Huge mistake on their end.

When did they say they would never introduce a charge? Or that using Plex to stream would always be free?

You have a Plex pass so they won’t need anything to continue streaming from your server.

That’s just theoretical. I run plex server in a docker container in TrueNAS. I believe many people do the same. So I use Plex only locally. But since a docker container has isolated network, Plex considers streaming as remote. Of course, this can be changed by ā€œopeningā€ docker’s network (or let’s say ā€œunisolateā€ it) but this is very dangerous option and should not be used.
Therefore I’ll have to consider to pay it anyway or migrate to competitor (Jellyfin). I’d pay lifetime license but not 225 EUR like it is now. I’d agree to pay some 30 EUR for lifetime license just to be able to watch my own content in my local network. Subscription is too expensive for this IMHO.
Thanks Plex for great experience in the past!

I don’t think that is true. Unless you have put your server machine into a data center, or have assigned its IP to the DMZ in your router, the security is just the same as if you were running it as a native app.
Containerization does very little for security.

This new update, yeah, completely butchered functionality in IOS, such a disappointment and I genuinely feel as if the company has stolen from me after selling me a service and then knowingly making it worse and then on top of that raising prices and stuff.
