Service change

I paid for a lifetime subscription for Plex because it offers streaming for free when you create a new account and connect it with a free subscription. This way I can manage all my family’s accounts and restrict access to individual libraries. Is this not going to free anymore next month?? If so, what good is the lifetime subscription going to be for me? I feel like Plex is ripping me off for advertising a service and then changing it to take my money.

With you as the server owner having a Plex Pass, your Family/friends can still stream remotely from your server at no extra cost (no Plex Pass or Watch Pass needed for them).

From the FAQ in the blog post:

I do not have a Plex Pass, but stream remotely from a Plex Media Server:

To stream remotely starting on April 29, 2025, you will need a Remote Watch Pass or Plex Pass subscription on your account or the admin of the Plex Media Server from which you stream will need a Plex Pass subscription on their account.

Let me know if my understanding of this is correct:

I own a Plex Media server, with my own content on it. My kids and my brother watch the content of MY Media server while NOT on my local network.

So for this to continue to work, I need to purchase a regular Plex Pass subscription (the $6.99/mo one), then ALL my kids and my brother can continue to watch.

Is that correct?

I just checked with my brother and he’s been watching a TV series on my server most evenings since April 29, and has had no problems, and no error messages. Neither of us has a Plex subscription other than the free ones.

The only app that currently enforces the Remote Watch Pass is the new mobile apps. All others will eventually as we update them to new experience apps.
