I was unable to connect to my plex server while my internet was down.

Please tell me that this is not the case or that you are working on a fix for this. Not being able to use plex locally without an internet connection is a deal breaker for me.

If you use Plex Home then unfortunately Internet is required for authentication. https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/sections/200641063-Plex-Home

I too hope that this becomes a serious focus so the Devs can implement a better way for those terrible times when the Internet is down.

In theory it’s supposed to cache the certs while offline for a certain period of time but in reality it doesn’t work this way. The times it’s happened to me I’ve had to disable home.

Does it work if you access your PMS directly instead of logging on to Plex.tv??

I have never tried that as I never seem to have an internet outage for any significant length of time.

There was a security option added back in version 1.1.0 if any of your devices are logged in to Plex.tv than all devices will require to also be signed into Plex.tv (Requiring Internet).

Plex Media Server 1.1.0 is now available for Plex Pass members.
NEW:
(Security) When server is signed in, clients must be signed in as well, even if they are on the LAN or on localhost. (#3819)

Plex Media Server 1.1.3 is now available for everyone.
IMPORTANT: With the security changes in version 1.1.0, if your Plex Media Server is signed in to a plex.tv account, then all of the apps you use must also be signed-in. If you use older apps that cannot authenticate (e.g. LG’s MediaLink or SmartShare apps), you can add the IP address of the device to the following advanced preference: Settings > Server > Network > List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth. (We strongly encourage apps to be signed in for improved security and enhanced functionality.)

So if any of them were logged in to plex.tv, then they will require a internet connection.

So logging in to the PMS directly to it’s IP address and port won’t work??

Not if it’s logged into your Plex.tv account. I would try logging out and testing it.
