Without going into too much detail about the my specific situation I would like to know if it’s possible to use Plex locally completely void of any internet connection. Seriously, just imagine that I have no internet connection can I still use Plex for my local media?
For example my router will create a local network that does not access the internet my laptop with the Plex Server and Samsung Smart TV will be connected to said network. When doing this, the TV is unable to authenticate so it cannot connect to the media server. I have searched everywhere for a solution and have not found one.
I’ve tried disabling Secure connections which didn’t work
I’ve also tried editing the list of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth which didn’t work
I also tried using my phone instead of the Smart TV thinking may be it’s a problem with the TV’s app but that didn’t work
It’s kinda frustrating cause honestly this should be a straight forward thing but for some reason it isn’t.
Try with the server itself signed out (in Settings / Server / General ) and ensure GDM is enabled in Settings / Server / Network / Show Advanced. And Secure Connections disabled - (settings / server / network) - it would be disabled if the server is signed out anyway
On the client apps see if there is any setting for secure connections being required and ensure fallback to insecure connections is set - if there is such an option
No need to use the `List of Networks and IP Addresses field if the server is signed out
Some Smart TV apps get downloaded from plex.tv and so would need the internet.
I just lost internet connection for a few minutes here. I was in the middle of watching a show, and suddenly I could not watch anymore. Furthermore, I wasn’t even able to access settings or any other feature of plex after I closed the window. It seems that an internet connection is required to even access the server.

This seems like a rather large shortcoming
Can you explain how you have your Plex set up? Are you using Plex Home and managed users? I recently had internet issues and was able to play media and access my server settings, even though I couldn’t access outside of my home. It seems that every setup gets different results when there’s no internet.
At the moment it’s a hassle to set up an “offline supported” Plex server. The downfall are often always the clients which won’t let you enter the app if there is no internet connection. For offline support you will have to turn off PLEX home which was only feature for me to go “plex pass”. I recommend you use kodi if thats an issue for you. Or you check out emby. I don’t know if they handle the subject better but I think I read something about it.
