I have two libraries on my server, TV and movies. I have a managed user, my son, who has access only to certain items in the libraries which are tagged using a share tag and “allow only” under the restrictions section of the shared user settings. There is a separate setting for “TV programmes” and “Films” and this successfully works for both.
I have now created a third library, with type “Other video”, which is home family videos. I wish to share this with my son, but do not wish to apply any restrictions to what he can see. I have shared it with my sons user account, but items from this library do not show up for his username unless I tag it with “his” tag. This seems to be an oversight, as I have not set the library as either “Films” or “TV Programmes”, so I do not think any restrictions should be applying.
Is it possible to sort this out so that all videos in this library are available to my son without restirction? There isn’t a setting under the “Restrictions” section for “Other Video” libraries.
Plex applies the same restrictions to other video type libraries as for movie-type libraries. Therefore… while you want to keep the movie restrictions up… your best shot to achieve a full share of the home videos is to tag them all.
The good news about this… you don’t need to do it one item at a time. Instead you can select the 1st item, slowly scroll to the end of the library page (slow enough for Plex to load the individual items in between), then hold Shift and click/select the last item. Once all items are selected, click Edit and add the tag to all items in 1 go.
Thanks. That’s a good work around - though it’s a shame a workaround is required! I have explicitly stated these are not movies in my choice of library type, so I don’t know why the movie restrictions would be applied!
Do you think I should raise it as a bug/feature for improvement?
There used to be a suggestion to allow sharing restrictions for home videos which had been closed as „implemented“ because you can restrict those libraries using the movie restrictions. Therefore, a dedicated suggestion to allow for an additional set of restrictions for „other video“-type libraries seems fine to me (at least I couldn’t find an existing thread that’s already covering this topic.
