Is it possible to identify subtitles in the same language in different ways?
The problem is I have a MKV video with poor-quality English subtitles softcoded into it, and I can’t remove them.
I’ve found good-quality external subtitles, but when I add them to the video’s folder, Plex shows two subtitles available, both called “English (SRT External)”.
Is it possible to change that identifier somehow? I don’t want to force the subtitles.
External label means that the sub is not embedded in the media, so most likely you have some subtitle agent active, and the sub is from that.

So is there a way to identify my local subtitle file – episode S00E00.en.srt – so it appears as something other than “English (SRT External)”, so I can it apart from other subtitles the Plex player identifies like that?
“Softcoded” means the subtitle isn’t burnt into the actual video frames.
Simple: use a different language code than en in the file name of your ‘correct’ subtitle.
You can use any ISO 639-1 or ISO 639-2/B code.
Or you can use WebTools to find and delete the incorrect subtitle, which was likely downloaded by a ‘subtitle agent’.

Identifying English subtitles as using languages that are not English is not a workable solution. I’ve got other videos with more than one subtitles in English – such as subtitled directors’ commentaries and historical annotations – in addition to dialogue subtitles.
I meant that only temporary. That way you can identify which is which.
Note that if you use WebTools to delete the offending sub, and the agent is still enabled, it’ll get re-applied faster that you can imagine!
