If I Move a Plex Server To Another Machine Do Users Automatically Update?

Subject says it all, really…if I move my Plex server from one machine to another (currently running with the official app on Synology, but want to move to docker on another server) following the instructions here, will the process be transparent to my shared users?

Does the server name change when you move it to a new server, or is it unique to that instance and separate from the server’s hostname?

If necessary I can notify my family in advance and advise them that they’ll be invited to access new libraries, if that’s how it works, but I’d rather it be as simple and transparent to them as possible.

If you actually migrate the server and your libraries, this should also include which libraries/items are shared with certain users.

Thanks @tom80H

So even if the plex server and libraries are moved to a new host, with a new name and IP address, the users’ view of the libraries won’t change. Or at least, if the plex server name changes with the move to a new host, that will be transparent to the users, they’ll still see the Movie, TV, Music libraries, etc., just with a different server name next to them?

Shared libraries will also persist if you rename your server – so renaming the server won’t have any impact.
However, during an actual migration, the server/library names will be transferred as is… so they won’t even see it as a different server name.

Great news, thanks again
