Plex server migration - house A to house b

Server Version#: 1.25.5.5492-12f6b8c83
OS: Cent OS 7.9

i have an existing plex server that has been running for a few years and would like to migrate over to one in another house. I have read the info on this page and it is helpful. But I do have some outstanding questions I am hoping the community can help with. Also, any best practices or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Current State

  • Plex server A is in house A with a unique hostname
  • Plex server B is in house B with a unique hostname
  • server b is up and running is online, media library is rsynced, and dump of required files are moved over. please has not been installed yet

Questions

  • With server b have a different hostname, how will this impact endusers once server A goes down?
  • with my plex pass, will it only recognize one plex server at a time?
  • anything I am missing from a migration standpoint?
  • is there anything i can do to make this migration as seemless as possible for the enduser?
  • is there a better approach?

Thanks in Advance

Hostnames shouldn’t be relevant to your users accessing your server; as long as the server is available remotely and able to publish its whereabouts to those users.

There’s no hard restriction as for how many servers you can link to your Plex account

You probably might want to review your network setup to ensure remote access to your new server (port forwarding, ip reservation, potentially a DNS rebind protection exception for plex.direct)

Sounds solid so far…

thanks for the sanity check. will give an update once I can find some time to try this
