If I suscribe today to the Plex Pass, do I get access to users' anterior watching history?

Server Version#: 4.56.3

I want to know if my family uses Plex a lot or just from time to time.

The total number of movies and TV episodes watched per user would be enough to me.

[superfluous details on why I’d like to know this, you can skip it]
I asked them but the say “very regularly” or “a lot” but it feels like a polite answer. I spent a lot of time looking for subtitles for them that I don’t personally need. So it their usage is low, I’ll ask them to request the subtitles. Only a few of them are tech-savvy enough to use the automatic search for subs and it doesn’t always work anyways.

As far as I know, yes.

You could start with a monthly sub and unsubscribe after the first month if it doesn’t deliver what you’re after.
Just make sure to wait a few hours after subscribing, then stop and restart your plex server (and the web app as well), before making any judgment.

Good idea indeed. I should have thought of it!

I just did that. I’m waiting since, as you mentioned it, my Premium status has not been updated immediately. Sort of weird but I can wait a few hours of course.

Those 5€ are well deserved by Plex. I must say I’d gladly pay 5€ per month since I use it and like it. However, there is not a single Premium-reserved function I need in the long run ; I think I’ll move away from Plex at some point. Their strategy is clear, quite logical and even clever, but it’s not at all what I’m looking for. I’m just part of a niche of users that Plex won’t address just because they can’t address all niches with very specific needs. Too bad… for me!

It doesn’t look like you bought the plex pass for the same account under which your server is running.

Are you sure that you bought an actual Plex Pass and not just an unlocking of the Plex mobile app (for either Android mobile or iOS)?

Yeaaahhh… I suspected something went astray since I haven’t gained access to the Premium status since my purchase 2 days ago.

I do have several Plex accounts :

  • one is unused now, I’ll remove it
  • one as admin of the “Graal Server” that I want to upgrade to Premium
  • the last is my account as a user (to distinguish myself from the admin, just be a user like the other users in my family).

Each account is identified by a different email address. I never received confirmation of my purchase on any of those addresses (all of them work, I checked) and none of these accounts are premium.

So I wonder which account it could be. Another one I created by mistake? That’s unlikely (I’m a web project manager for 20 years, so I guess I handle the web reasonably well) but an error is always possible. I wonder if my purchase went through ; I don’t see the purchase on my bank account, but that usually takes a few days.

So I’ll wait until tomorrow night and will contact Plex support. Thanks for your attention!

When you’re juggling with several Plex accounts, it is crucial to use an “incognito”/“privacy” browser tab. Otherwise you can end up using the wrong Plex account.
(Some of those cookies are very persistent)

I can tell you that you are using this forum as the server admin, currently.

Yep. It is voluntary. I don’t know why the server name is used as the admin name.

In all cases, none of my accounts has been awarded the Premium status, so the issue is elsewhere. I’ll let you know.

Do you work for Plex by the way?

I’m a forum moderator with some insight into user accounts.

Oh, ok, I wondered because you are very reactive, which is super nice. Thanks!
