I don’t get how this is possibly so difficult to implement as there is already an edit function on the Show, Season, & Episode level. ( I do realise that Plex doesn’t actually pass data between the editing levels at present so this is likely much harder than it seems)
This is 100% my biggest roadblock on signing up for premium.
None of my family or friends are willing to set subtitles + audio for the same show between episodes
This is the absolute bare minimum of a streaming service after providing video and audio. Crunchyroll, Viki, Netflix, HBO, literally every other service can do this!
Edit: Now I’m about to pass all of my settings to a 3rd party program to have access to this extremely basic function. A major security risk that if it turns out badly will likely push me off of Plex entirely.
But, you know, all humans live in the US and only speak English (Screw you 53,000,000 Americans who speak Spanish!). Who said diversity in their workforce was a good idea!?
Well, this is disheartening to see.
Is this how Plex treats its user base? By completely ignoring them when they make a feature request that - to be frank- should have been implemented 10 years ago, let alone the 4 its been since this thread began?
That’s poor form.
I’ve been considering getting plex pass, but if this is the regard in which you hold your users, you don’t deserve my money.
A simple subtitle/audio entry in the series edit section could provide this. I doubt its as easy as others in the thread state, as subtitles can be in the video container itself or an outside file of its own, but still…this is a feature that is basic needs in a system like Plex.
Silence from the devs is sad, indeed.
Yeah, you probably have a bottom line, but I can’t help thinking that you could help meet that by simply adding this simple feature. Refining what was built and not worry “so much(?)” about the latest and greatest features. $0.02
That’s not really that difficult, you just check the media file and then locally (or the other way around, depending on your ‘prefer local’ setting) and see if there’s a subtitle track matching the user’s chosen language.
Personally I’d like the option to say ‘audio track defaults to original language, subtitles default to english when audio is non-English’ — and then the option to change it per series, as in this thread (some, mostly American, TV shows seem to have really bad masters which makes dialogue very hard to hear over SFX). I’ll take just the per-series control, though, as long as I don’t have to change it every damn episode.
+1 for sure. It is truly inane that, in 2021, a service like plex still would not have this very basic feature. It is SUCH a pain to have to change audio tracks and subtitle tracks per episode. The fact that multiple 3rd party folks have developed workaround solutions to this before plex has is just beyond frustrating.
+1 this is the only problem I’m facing actually, having to re encode all my library with the audio / subtitles that I want first (order and default flag in mkv) but if I change my mind at any time I’d need to re encode everything again, and this is only for me the other person using plex that want different audio/sub would still need to change it for every episode.
Moreover the “enable sub for foreign language” combined with “no forced sub” preference do not seem to work at all
Please let us choose sub/audio for an entire tv show, it make much more sense.
95% of the time a show will have the same named audio channels and subtitles throughout. It should be trivial to edit episodes that share these, for any given selection
+1 for choosing if and which sub track to force on a per show or at least per season basis, same with audio track as plenty of anime has multiple audio streams (apply to all users on the server too). A list with radio buttons under advanced to choose from detected sub/audio tracks? Affects anyone with foreign shows or movies too so I’m sure there’s going to be plenty of demand there too.
At least bring it to Plex Pass users, you might even see an uptick in Plex Pass adoption.
This is painful to change at the beginning of each episode the audio/subtitles settings.
Does this feature has been think about by the dev team ? Do we have a feedback from them ? Is there something to track the suggestions implementations anywhere ? Can we help them in any way ?
Another +1 for this. Surely it can’t be that hard to have a button mark a particular dataset (series) in a particular way to force subs and maybe even select soundtrack (if it’s multi-lingual). Don’t know why they wouldn’t do it. Oh well. Like others have said they’re probably focussed on the Live TV streaming stuff because that’s where they see future revenue.
