Another vote to enable live TV scheduling/recording for managed users. This crippling of the UI for loyal Plex Pass members makes no sense.
I have to use managed users because I have small kids in the house, and can’t login as the admin everywhere exposing all of the libraries on all of the clients. For now I have to schedule recordings for my wife and kids since the main TV in the house on an Apple TV is logged in as a managed user.
Please Please Please enable recording and scheduling for managed users. Restrict it to a certain number of users if you need to, but please enable it for at least one managed user. Thanks!
I agree I would like to give access to all users I have or be able to give the option to let the user schedule and record TV shows, Movies etc. On there own. Please make this available asap…
Keep in mind that it’s not THAT simple. Implementing this will require some thinking as to what to do when if someone tries to record a show where others are already programmed and no tuner are available. It is important that the user is not able to mess up other’s already programmed recordings. Nor dont you necessarily want your kids or other users to see what you are actually recording either.
I`m all up for this feature, but only if it’s implemented properly.
My first Tivo in 1999 let whomever had the remote manage the DVR. It assumed the users were capable of cooperating when scheduling, prioritizing, and deleting recordings.
This seems like a massive miss by Plex, there needs to be better management of both DVR options such as recordings for managed users as well as DVR libraries in general.
I don’t understand why this feature doesn’t exist. I just finished setting up my HDHomeRun when I discovered that only the admin user can schedule recordings. This really limits the usability of the Plex DVR functionality.
If I login in to the Plex Web Client with the admin account and go to guide. I have option to record. Next if I switch to a home user they also have access to record options.
If I close my browser to start from scratch and login with the home user the don’t have record options. Next I switch to admin user and then switch back to the home user the record options are available for the home user.
This does not work in my MacOS Plex Player, but does from the web ui.
The is already done for to some extent for a single account. No need to make it any more complex than it already is. If a user is given DVR scheduling access, then allow them to adjust the priority of recordings just like the admin.
By default, I’m pretty sure Plex sets the priority of newly added schedules lower then previously added. In this case, a “allow user to adjust other user’s scheduled recordings” access bits could solve the issue, though, in a family setting, if the user can’t be trusted not to mess up the recording schedule, they probably shouldn’t be trusted with DVR scheduling access in the first place. Regardless, rolling out shared DVR scheduling access shouldn’t be held up for implantation of these kinds of restrictions – though Plex seems to have other priorities at this point, with DVR being a red-headed-step-child.
Hopefully this feature of allowing the admin to give recording rights to other home users is in the works. I have been doing the cable card thing since they became available many many eons ago, and Plex on the Roku Ultra system is hands down the best experience, especially when accommodating a family where some aren’t as technical as others. I really think we should be grateful that this market is being met and done so without blue screens, and all kinds of other hiccups that came with every platform I’ve tried. I say keep up the good work, thanks for the improvements like the guide grid and I have to believe that recording by all regular users is coming, otherwise why would there be multiple user accounts. Logically, the different user home pages are set up to reflect their own watch habits, not just lumping the whole house together. I believe!!
