Hi All! New to plex and loving it so far. I am running a single plex server under a plex pass. We have live TV working however,I read that only the admin can schedule recordings. Two questions. 1) Is there a featured planned that would allow admins to give certain managed users the ability to record live TV? 2) While this option is not available, is there a work-around besides giving the users access to the admin account? Currently I have 6 family members using plex (all managed users) with certain folder securities in place, so the kiddos cant access them and other family members can only access their own camera roll folders. Giving them access to the admin account in order to allow scheduled recordings would also allow them to get to the content they should not have access to.

Welcome to Plex. Your question fits here, could have been asked in General Plex Pass, or maybe the Live TV and DVR section.
2) No work-around currently, and 1) Plex rarely (99.9% of the time does not) share future plans.
Rarely any transparency on developmental road maps regarding features or bug fixes. (A sticking point for some, not only me)
There are many of us with Plex clients that we’d like to see Plex even add recording management, let alone then focus on user management of said recording. (My Rokus for instance - Live TV = yes, Recording management, no.)
We just stumbled across this limitation - cause a lot of frowns here. I’ve been using mythtv since the beginning and am considering moving to just Plex. I guess I can’t ding this vs Myth as myth did not really have users I guess.
Still an odd restriction. But I guess, not allowing the S/O to take up valuable recording slots makes sense
This limitation is frustrating! WHY would I want to be a remote control for my family members? Also why would I want to give admin rights to anyone that I did not want to be their personal record button remote control to? This seems to be a logic error not a limitation.
I just purchased a lifetime plex pass today in order to allow other in my family to record, only to find out about this bug (I would say limitation but as others have mentioned, it seems like an error rather than a thought out feature).
If anyone from Plex sees this, please can it be fixed.
This has been a request ever since DVR came out (along with a grid guide), and the grid guide is getting close now - it’s currently in PlexWeb. So if they are listening I would guess maybe 6 - 8 months from now is an option. DVR has very little attention from plex as they focus on launching new features to get Plex pass subscribers.
This was my soul purpose of getting an HDHomeRun I have the master account but 3 other AppleTVs around the place with Plex installed and different users, I was going to use The LiveTV function. Rather than get an aerial splitter and take coax to each TV.
Pet peeve for me as well. I like having my outlying TVs with limited control – but I want the ability to pass specific permissions along to those satellites.

I’ve been told it should work but thats as far as Plex has gone in helping me out.
I too just got Plex Pass to evaluate for Live TV + DVR functionality for a possible switch from Emby + Tvheadend + Kodi, and this limitation is frustrating to say the least. The admin account should not be used for this. I have been using Emby for years, but they still have never gotten Live TV working right either…performance is horrible on my devices. Performance is slightly better in Plex…still bugs to work out though.
In my setup, I reserve the admin account only for Web UI use when the server needs to be configured/managed. I have two managed accounts that are used on all streaming devices in the house, one or which should be used to watch and record…and delete watched DVR recordings, and the other is for Guests to use to view content and Live TV only…
These kinds of limitations force many users to use PVR solutions, like NextPVR and Tvheadend, which is why I am still tied to Kodi for the moment while I wait for someone to get Live TV and DVR working like it should. If normal managed users cannot schedule recordings, then this becomes an unusable feature.
That is absolutely ridiculous. I’m disappointed that plex hasn’t taken 5 minutes out of their busy day to fix this error. Had I known this I certainly wouldn’t have jumped on the subscription train for this product.
Also pledging my support for this, I see no reason why this doesn’t already exist. Any user should be able to make live tv recordings and/or recording subscriptions.
