I believe what I see from my use of Plex. My server works, my clients (across a variety of platforms/OSes) all work. Where something has gone wrong it’s either been rectified by raising it with Plex or it’s been an issue with my setup.
ah the old “it’s working fine for me” response.
It’s sufficient to counter a claim that the product is always broken. If that were the case then it couldn’t possibly be fine for me could it? It’s unfortunate that some aspects of it break sometime (and having been browsing through the TrueHD thread it appears it’s a wider issue outside of Plex with similar issues being reported with Emby), but that’s the nature of software development.
In the main, Plex works perfectly well to serve local content and the addition of new features has not changed that.
For Home & Managed users, yes. But for another Plex user, who may use Plex for other reasons than just the media you are sharing, no. I do agree there should be an easy way for each user to toggle such a feature off, but not for the owner of a server to toggle other users’ non-sharing related features.
sorry but you’re wrong there.
some people reported issues in that thread that were similar to the issue reported, but in fact were nothing to do with it (to do with different release versions).
incidentally, Emby has no issues playing the files that Plex currently can’t play correctly.
Ah, the old “I know so much more than you and I’m going to keep reminding you of that” response.
I get why you’re frustrated with the current state of the Plex Android TV client. I am, too. But it would be nice to see actual helpful responses.
Services where the content I don’t have on my personal plex server show up in an advertisement and therefore Plex, inc gets a cut. It’s a simple business model.
Setting aside that we don’t actually know what money is being exchanged, between whom, and for what, where exactly are you being ‘forced’ to view these ‘advertisements’?
Money is being exchanged - there is absolutely zero reason to burn engineering resources and investor funds to buildout this new feature. Plex, inc has already given up on providing value to personal libraries, as indicated by Plex, inc completely ruining TRUEHD on the Shield Pro with absolutely zero ETA to fix. It’s only been 6 weeks though - I’m sure getting value from my Plex Pass by having advertisements shown upon
But of course Plex, inc needs to be secret on their media deals for reasons that are beyond comprehension of us mere customers.
That’s all well and good, but where exactly are you being ‘forced’ to view these ‘advertisements’?
Search results, watchlist, discover.
From plex, inc shows a pretty good example: Plex Discover
- Search results - You can disable the ‘More ways to watch’ results, but there’s nothing forcing you to click on those results even if you haven’t disabled it.
- Watchlist - I haven’t been forced to add anything onto a watchlist. Are your server/clients making you add things to a watchlist and then look at them there?
- Discover - You can unpin the hub can’t you? And even if you couldn’t you’re not being forced to go in and actually look at anything in there are you?
It doesn’t actually sound like you’re being forced to look at advertising at all. You’re choosing to go into features where you know it’s going to tell you about other streaming services that have the content you’re looking at, and then getting worked up about it. Seems an odd thing to get het up about.
Have you tried (and this is quite a radical approach I know) not using the new features if you don’t like them?
Have to agree with Krazeh here. Turn off “More ways to watch” in search and unpin Discover and for all intents and purposes, it is gone. I have no idea what all the pearl clutching is all about.
Why woudn’t i want to use a feature that can list movies and TV show me or my family and friends would like to watch ?
This is a cool feature, and it can be very usefull.
But why on earth do i have to see streaming services advertising for Amazon or Disney or else if i don’t use them and don’t want to use them?
It is force to me on my screen, where i avoid those service in my life. That’s why I use Plex and not Netflix and Hulu.
It is force the same way it was forced to us on the search bar.
Of course, if i didn’t want to see those adds on the search bar i could not use it.
But this is a usefull feature don’t you think ?
Thanks, now we can disable the ads from the search bar.
Let us do the same for the Watchlist.
Because that’s what the function does. It’s literally the whole point of the new added functionality. If you don’t like knowing that content is available on other services then don’t use that functionality. Don’t use it and then complain that it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to do.
Are you suggesting a watchlist where you can remove the links to other services or disabling it entirely? Because the former is extremely unlikely to happen (what with it being the antithesis of why the function was added) and how is the latter really any different from just not using it?
I feel like the arguments in this post over the past few days have gotten circular, and far too deep into the details. The main post is about fully disabling the new functionality. There are four other posts out there batting back and forth the same semantics. Agree to disagree about the fine points and move on.
I mean a Watchlist without ads.
If you are happy with Plex suggesting you to use streaming services you use or not for a movie you added there, fine for you.
If i add a movie from my movies collection, that a bought and rip, I don’t want to see Plex suggesting me 5 ways to buy it again.
I feel the same. Idon’t even anderstand why people happy with what Plex deliver are trying to convice other that are not happy to be happy or to let go.
I am not a kid, i know how to use Plex, I don’t need someone to tell me if an ad is an ad or if I don’t like it i just have to leave.
Why would I if we can both have the best experience from a software we use regulary.
You don’t have to leave. You just stop using the function that does the thing you don’t like. Or, preferably, stop complaining if you do choose to use it.
Well, I’ll stop now arguing with you.
Sorry, don’t take it personnaly, but what I care is Plex’s opinion, not yours.
