[Implemented] Fully Disable Discover & search results from Streaming Services (More Ways To Watch)

Thank you for the update. I hope we can hear about you more often, even if it’s not always pleasant ( i don’t mean you, i mean your message)
Just to feel that you are still interested in what we are saying here.

Exactly! As I’ve said a few times already, its a feature request to fully disable these features via our server or via our accounts. Its not a debate on the merits of the feature, the discussion thread should be used for that. If folks don’t want the ability to control this then they should just not vote for it and continue as is using it as they are. Some of us (800+ so far) want this control so others in the community should respect our opinion.

I’ll add that so far the ability to hide some of this (more ways to watch) is a welcomed step forward but not in the spirit of the feature request and more work is needed before I’d consider this implemented.

I hear a VLC, Kodi, Plex, Emby, Jellyfin, Winamp COMBO install is the way to go. Don’t forget Tvheadend for your tuners/IPTV. Don’t forget the Windows XP codec pack too.

If you’re all gonna complain at least have the proper setup.

Then turn it off!

A watchlist is just a glorified playlist that serves no real purpose in Plex by itself so use it or lose it but don’t complain about it.

It just showed up in a new stable release.

FWIW, Plex Preview on the Roku is just as stable as it could ever be and gets the updates quicker.

Good thing about Plex Preview is it can be installed side by side with the main release without conflicts.

Got it!
And I see the new search setting…
Thanks!

A simple solution then is to give the Plex “owner” a way to remove it from the Main page then. Why force it there? Maybe, I don’t know, like the subject of this request would suggest…

I forgot whom I’m replying to, please keep telling us how we are incorrectly using our own media server.

Looks like I have a lot of reading on how to delete these advertisements from every one of my clients / endpoints. Great.

Thanks Plex, inc for this value add.

I don’t disagree about having an option to hide the watchlist entirely, but let’s not pretend that it being there forces you to click on it, add anything to the watchlist, or view the universal details page for any media.

Let’s also not pretend that it being there isn’t being forced upon us.

I also love a good debate and don’t mind the banter. I just will never understand your argument that “just because you paid for it doesn’t mean you will always be able to use it the way you want to.” mentality. You don’t care if we like it, we get that, but every reply to people not liking it is you saying to ignore it. Just understand, we who don’t like it, bought it for OUR media.

Yeah… as if these maneuvers haven’t made their way into other industries

Our cars are not owned by us, but just yet another way for car manufacturers to add ways for them to own us and our vehicles

Exactly what Plex is doing with these new contracts with companies.

We paid for a main core product. We aren’t getting the full use of the main product but instead are getting unnecessary bells and whistles that Plex is expecting their users to pay for.

Nobody made you pay for Watchlist and Discover. They are provided to you free of charge.

So what if it is? Plex want to introduce a new feature and that’s their prerogative. But just because it exists doesn’t mean you’re (or anyone else) is being forced to use it… Being able to hide it would be nice, but in the meantime it’s quite simple to just not click on it…

You haven’t ‘bought’ Plex tho. Plex is free and always has been. What you and I have paid for is additional functionality.

If they make a material change to the functions you have/are paying money for then go nuts in kicking up a fuss. But having handed over money doesn’t entitle people to demand Plex doesn’t introduce anything they don’t like. Or make wholesale changes to how it works if they do.

The most ridiculous thing about the ongoing hysteria and hyperbole that still gets spouted is that users who are only interested in local media can continue to use their servers to do just that. You never have to look at the discover hub or the watchlist and can remove any external results from the search. Other than the word “Watchlist” next to “Recommended” on the home screen it’s no different now than it was before these new features were added.

But that’s seemingly not good enough so we have users claiming they’re forced to look at advertising or demanding that Plex removes the features entirely.

No you didn’t.

They are not free of charge when those who pay monthly are not getting DOWNLOADING, which has been a broken core Plex Pass perk for months now, as part of their $5 fee.

What app is downloading not working?

iOS and Android. I definitely seen threads about this and even took screenshots, uploaded my own issues with no indication that it’s been resolved.

What am I trying to download here? A movie? Music? Anything?

Just tried it with a TV episode on Android and it worked fine.
