[Implemented] Fully Disable Discover & search results from Streaming Services (More Ways To Watch)

Looks like someone nominated themselves the Plex’s Pitbull Lawyer.

Chill dude.

All I’m asking for is an OFF SWITCH. So, shutdown your ego and get off your high horse.

I wonder if we could use that as a general reminder to the entire thread… no matter which case you argue.

800+ votes is a rather powerful statement. Repeating the same arguments or attacking each other isn’t contributing to getting further attention (except maybe degrading the original reasoning). Let’s try to curb the emotions down a few degrees.

Where’s the fun it that?

It’s like real life… while you’re in a small group, that kind of “humor” might fly. If you involve “outsiders”, some of the “fun” sticks and offends until at some point nobody remembers it was supposed to be fun but fights a righteous battle over… remind me… what was it about?

Reading up on this thread, I’m quite sure not everybody is in on the jokes.
So unless you want to open every other paragraph with “this part of my post is supposed to be funny”… maybe it’s not

PS: guilty of being off-topic too… though I can claim it was an effort of moderation – so let’s stick with that.

No. You got an Off Switch. What you’re asking for NOW is an Off Switch that you can Force on those you share with… Like you complain that Plex Forced on you…

I have NEVER EVER asked for such a feature.

I have only mentioned my friends because they need an OFF SWITCH on a non-Managed User account so they can turn off all the Discover features for themselves and their kids that share my Plex server.

Geez. Don’t forget to chill btw.

Sorry tom80H. It is just difficult when other users feel the need to keep misquoting me over and over again in an attempt to build a strawman to tear me down with.

So you made your point (several times, both of you)… at some point it’s time to recognize this is no cage fight / ultimate death match – it’s a feature suggestion and you disagree about it. Now you seem to be fighting over who gets the final word. I hope it makes you happy… it’s not contributing to the suggestion.

Indeed. Those are what I pay for. I don’t pay to see advertisements for content off of my server.

So I wonder… how many UNIQUE opinions have been expressed in this thread by individual people, as opposed to how many posts are 983 repeats of the same thought (pro or con) by the same few individuals with ever longer and colorful posts?

Isn’t it enough to let the vote count speak for itself by now?

I didn’t miss your point, I’m saying it is a irrelevant argument to use or make. You do not need a server to access Movies & Shows or Live TV on Plex and I can remove them from sight on My Server.

Then it doesn’t need to be there. How is this the argument you people keep coming up with, on a Vote based post asking for THOSE OF US WHO WANT IT TO BE ABLE TO TOGGLE IT OFF??? The audacity of people today never ceases to amaze me. I voted to ask Plex to put a toggle on MY Server to allow ME to get ride of ANY sighting of this “Feature” in a thread about exactly that. Yet people who feel the need to keep telling me to “just don’t use it and shut up”! This thread isn’t asking them to remove the feature from Plex or effect your choice to use it in anyway? So why do you people feel the need to constantly brow beat people into your way of seeing it and only your way? We are simple asking for it to be treated as any other “No Plex Server Needed Functioning Feature” Like Movies & Shows or Live TV on Plex and be given the choice to not see it anywhere on our Plex accounts.

Replace your argument that because I don’t want to see it because I don’t use it with Playlists, or the DVR, or Photo’s, or any other function of Plex you don’t use. The Audacity of your assumption that because you don’t use it means there HAS to be an ability to disable it.

Ya know what, I hate turn signals too, There should be an option to have them removed from a car before I purchase it

edit: Oh, and you want it gone, for sure, just use the web client on your actual server instead of through app.plex.tv. because again, it’s not on your actual server

And as I understand it, you don’t have to.

At this point, I assume you’re just taking the piss.
This is a feature request thread for exactly that. It’s not a ■■■■■■■ general discussion thread,
You vote for it or you don’t.

Yet. you laughably talk about others’ audacity after telling them they basically have no right to make a feature request.

Sure do. I need to figure out how to disable this opt-out (cute how plex, inc employees don’t believe in opt-in, especially when plex, inc decided to show hardcore pornography to children via discover and watchlist) on every single of my endpoints.

I have many endpoints. It will take time and effort to “hide” advertisements on a platform that I pay for. Until we can completely nuke Discovery and Watchlist from our servers and all of our clients, this thread will never be marked complete.

It’s the hypocrisy.

side note, I’m not sure of your slang (taking the piss) so I don’t know what you mean by that.

You don’t have to on your server, in your home.

I assume you mean friends you share with by endpoints. Seems debatable whether that’s their app or your endpoint. But as both sides have already been presented here to no agreement, I’ll just leave it at that.

What? How is using my PMS without unwanted 3rd party injected links using it against the Terms of Service? I really would like to hear this. please?

So paying for the Plex Pass (which gives me the mobile OS apps to use for free as a bonus of that) means I didn’t pay for the client either? Because I think it is well documented that only the Plex Pass Purchaser gets that perk, both my children had to purchase the app to be able to use it outside of my home (same with the Pass for my server) if you want it without a Plex Pass you have to pay for that Apps on some devices or am I factually incorrect again?
I don’t believe I deserve any more than what I can do with any other 3rd Party Plex Service and that is to have the ability to toggle off any of it from sight on any viewable part of My (and I’ll keep saying My since I’m the one who paid for the PMS program with all the functions I wanted, am maintaining it and paying for the electricity and internet I need to use it) Server.

If anyone of the people connected to My Sever don’t like how I am running My Server they are free to stop using My Server. I can not charge or would I ever charge my family or friends to use my server and as you keep pointing out they don’t need My Server to use Plex Services. So again it’s a win win!

You tried, it was horrible, but you tried, I’ll give you that. But as mention also that’s what a Playlist can do with out the need for a second utensil (to use your terms).

You are contradicting yourself one right after the other. You say I’m changing the definition of one thing but calling another thing completely different. Scrolling, no matter how long it takes to find what you are looking for is searching, you are just making it simpler. A billboard on the side of a highway with only the words “South of the Border” is an advertisement by definition add in the Exit Number (or a link to a 3rd party site or app) is the same thing, by definition. Or am I making that definition up too?

Then why if I don’t want to use it or haven’t used it before do I need to have it visible?

Nope - the massive amount of clients (ipads, iphones, nvidia shields) I own either on my property or other properties I own. I’m not exactly a one-endpoint household.

Sounds like you’re essentially working around the Plex limitations. I see nothing wrong with that. But it may be a struggle to get Plex support for easier administration of that approach. But good luck trying, no skin off my nose.
