[Implemented] Fully Disable Discover & search results from Streaming Services (More Ways To Watch)

Oh, my word! I have not been to the Plex Homepage in some time and had to check.

Really sad that the writing is on the wall now and after more than a decade, I will need to start looking for an alternative before local media platform.

Well, technically correct, but still funny statement. They are Plex users as long as the server owner uses Plex as a server system. Once the server owner changes systems, they follow. Then they are “whatever base system the server owner ist using”-users.

Baseline for Plex: be nice to your server owners. Do not p*ss off your server owners. More often than not, you’ll loose “Plex users” together with the server owner.

While your statement is correct from a technical view point, family and friends will always stay with the server (owner), not with the system. Not even speaking about those Plex users who don’t evern know that they are Plex users (because their relative or friend did the setup for them).

Showing search results while being connected to a server has nothing to do with the server’s content?

Going into a local movie/TV show’s detail page only to find advertisements for streaming services has nothing to do with local server content?

Why not showing advertisements for cars or nudes in there then - hey, it has nothing to do with local content…

If you would only have the slightest idea of how wrong you are…
Search yesterday was: showing server content
Search today is: showing server content plus advertisements
How can you come to the idea that the same behaviour that was used to show local content yesterday - today has nothing to do with local content…

Ah… I forgot, you just disagree because you are annoyed… notice to myself: I need to learn to completely ignore your posts.

The best kind of correct :upside_down_face:.

Technically Plex has given 18+ content to kids. :upside_down_face:

I think that’s only the case if they’re using “full” Plex accounts; if they’re managed users, they have never had access to these features. And kids should never have full Plex accounts (according to TOS).

Even so, many parents have come out complaining about it, to the point that it forced Plex to move. So… Technically…

Not really. Well not any further than the search will find results from that local server.

Doesn’t do that. If you go into a local movie/TV show’s detail page it’s completely unchanged from how it was before.

Because showing external results in a clearly separate area below the local search results has nothing to do with the local results.

While technically I agree with you, comments like the one you replied to show that the UI is lacking and is confusing some users, that the separation is not done well enough.
I had similar questions by my users, even tech savvy ones.

While I agree that that was definitely bad on Plex, & Plex agrees too & has fixed that problem, it was never given “To Kids” as the Discover is not available on Managed Users, & The TOS says you have to be over 18 to use it. If an adult user setup their server to let a kid use the main account then yes, but that’s not Plex doing it. Was it wrong? Absolutely. There are plenty of Adults who don’t want to see that either, & shouldn’t have to unless they explicitly choose to. The real problem is that this was a Beta problem. They had an oversight on something they expected to be fine & worked fine in their resting, but users (who should be Beta users who agree to possibly having unexpected problems) do things in ways that were not planned for.

Now there’s an idea that would make this better IMO, though plenty will still have a problem, but it would solve a lot of the “User Confusion” problems.
There should be a separate line for Watch From These Locations in the Details page (From Watchlist), though I personally would not want that between the top & Seasons as that already makes the seasons mostly not visible, adding another line would make them completely out of sight. It could be a line under the Seasons before the Cast, that’d make it very out of the way & I’m sure Too much out of the way for Plex’s “Vision” but even just a hard delimitator between servers & streaming because, as it stands now, my server is just the 1st icon that is the same size, shape, & format as the streaming services. At minimum a bar between them would improve it, & ideally? I dunno, maybe a ¼ width, perhaps collapsible, icon with something like Also Available From or something on it. Ideally it should probably be a different color, maybe less transparent than the icons. Or there’s another idea, if the Local Server icons were bolder than the streaming ones that would help too.

What he’s talking about is the Details page when selected from the Watchlist, the one people complain about because it doesn’t use their artwork for

Not a bit. As I pointed out before, it’s no different from how it’s shown differently on a Roku as opposed to how it’s shown on an Android to how it’s shown on Plex for Kodi. Not annoyed, just pointing out what is factually untrue

Then that’s not the local movie/TV show’s detail page is it?

It’s not, but I if you just say “It’s not there!” & he just says “I See it, it’s there” nobody gets anywhere. If you, instead, point out that it’s a different place it no longer is an argument, & others can look & say “Oh, I see what he’s talking about” instead of either jumping on one side or another of a yelling match

Disable this feture now. You are showing innapropriate pornographic content in thumbnail images to my children just searching for their shows (local media). Remove this now or I demand a full refund and this is possibly a class action lawsuit! No end user wants this junk!

Context? The inappropriate results issue has been solved already, so some context would help because I’m not sure what or how they are seeing it. If they are seeing something inappropriate that definitely needs to be fixed, but there was an issue when this feature started from what we’ve heard that was an issue with alternative places not using the method of marking things as “Not For Kids” that Plex was expecting, so they “Slipped through”. From my understanding that has been fixed weeks ago & should no longer be happening. If it is still happening the only way it’ll get fixed is if you can elaborate as to where, how, etc, because as far as I know, & I believe as far as Plex knows, that problem shouldn’t be happening anymore. So if there’s another hole they need to know where it is, otherwise they will just look at the whole they already patched & say, “Nope, it ain’t leaking”

Also, just FYI, if they are on a managed account, the ones with restrictions, they shouldn’t be able to see any of these features anyway.

They do nothing but load crap and don’t listen to their customers for the past 3 years at least. Can someone make a new startup I can join and make it like Plex WAS 2018 and before? If so, I am there. Plex is just ONE BIG HEADACHE EVERY DAY NOW! I want Watchlist and Recommendations GONE and I want to be able to ORDER my HOME SCREEN and make it UNIFORM for MANAGED USERS! WHY IS THIS SO HARD TO GET THRU YOUR THICK SKULLS?! It’s like Fascists have taken over and are forcing their will upon our Servers’ GUI that WE PAID FOR! I AM TIRED OF WASTING MY TIME TRYING TO FIX PLEX to where it is USABLE EVERY WEEK AND HAVING TO HELP OTHERS GET THRU A SETUP I DON’T WANT AND DIDN’T ASK FOR!

If you start comparing Plex to Facism/Facists it’s beyond time to curb it down.
Take a nap, have a drink, don’t let the sun burn directly onto your head.

You’re perfectly ok to disagree and express those feelings. Going completely overboard will get you a forced timeout to rethink and reprioritize your 1st world problems.

I didn’t pay for THIS NEW INTRUSIVE BS! Then give everyone REFUNDS who are not happy! That or make an option to use a slimmed down version of PLEX where it is similar to WHAT IT WAS before all the intrusive BS took over.

EXACTAMUNDO! THIS IS THE BIGGEST of all the new PLEX PROBLEMS!

BS We are FORCED to USE a GUI we PAID FOR when it was NORMAL and NOT FORCED NONSENSE UPON US! WHAT DO YOU CALL BEING FORCED INTO USING SOMETHING? A MANDATE? That is the same thing, Fascism. It is a BAIT & SWITCH at BEST!I want a REFUND so I can take my business elsewhere! Or GIVE ME A SLIMMED DOWN NON-INTRUSIVE VERSION LIKE I PAID FOR! I am sick & tired of trying to fix things that are unnecessary garbage!.. BTW, WHERE IS “MANAGED RECOMMENDATIONS”??? YOU JUST REMOVE OPTIONS THAT HELPED SLIGHTLY? THIS IS MADDENING & here I am on a Sunday morning wasting HOURS after I’ve WASTED HOURS LAST NIGHT LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM, YET AGAIN!

Hey, I agree that Plex has screwed up and everything else, but I don’t think this is the method of expressing it, not only are you not going to achieve anything but you are going to diminish the opinion of the rest of the people who are in against. I get that it’s frustrating, but no one listens to a Karen.
