When I spend HOURS trying to make it usable each week and then even their "Managed Recommendations is just DISAPPEARED and I didn’t even want that because The Recommendations Default has NO BUSINESS being on a Server that I paid for when it didn’t exist. They doubled down with WATCHLIST which is even WORSE.
I have been following Plex since it was a brainstorm at WD Forums or similar Forum, Maybe the old XBMC Forum, I forget exactly where now but I know it didn’t yet exist and the creators asked in that forum if people would be interested. I, by word of mouth alone, have helped grow this company and I was happy for them. Now? They don’t care or listen to their customers. How hard would it be for these creative people to make a slimmed down version? SIMPLE. They don’t want to do that because of $. Some contract or some kickback or both, for forcing us to use this Layout and it is not right. Simple as that, this is not right to do to people. Especially ones who helped you build your company.

How difficult? extremely. To begin with they would have to separate ALL the code and have 2 versions, then work on both at the same time and keep the code so it’s double work. Defend the new application so that it is not accused of piracy, and much more. If it were that simple, I encourage you to try it, or else to use something else.
It’s simple, you create an account with an age limit, and they won’t be able to see anything that exceeds it.
I really appreciate this, I do. But apparently, this has been exorcised as well. I have looked in every sidebar section of my settings in my PMS and it is not here, just like Manage Recommendations. I am using “Advanced” settings as well so no one come offering that advice. I looked up videos and Images to see how I may be missing it but where it is supposed to be, the EXACT SAME PLACE as Manage Recommendations or at least that set of settings MANAGE> LIBRARY etc. …Manage Recently Added Items is not here but I sincerely thank you very much for your trying to help, because it was worth a try to at least help me fix my layout even a little.
Go to your settings page & at the bottom there is a category called MANAGE
Under the MANAGE category the 1st section should be Libraries
Now this is not the most intuitive setting by any means, but if you hover over a Library there is an option that will pop up called Manage Recommendations
Click on it & you will have 3 Columns
Library Recommended will show on the Recommended page when you are in that library
Home will show on the Home Page/Tab/Section whatever you wanna call it
Friends' Home will show for all Managed Users or any Shared Accounts you’ve allowed to access your server
At the bottom of that list there will be the Merge Recently Added Items checkbox that was mentioned already, that will just make a single Recently Added that will have all the ones you have checked for the Home & I’m not sure how that works for other users but I assume it does the same for them too.
If you are just running into this now it may be that you haven’t updated your server in awhile. If so, & you want to get rid of the Discover & Watchlist you should be able to do a System Restore on whatever system you have & get back to the old version. You won’t have the newer features, but you also won’t have this problem to deal with.
If you are running into them can you elaborate on how & where you are seeing them? @daymr mentioned the same thing, but as far as I’ve heard that problem had already been fixed. There’s still the problem with the Live TV not being able to restrict adult content, but that is mostly PG-13 movies or if you have cable maybe some R ones, but not straight up “Cultured Films” that have covers that should be censored.
Just note that that is a completley seperate issue, from their description it sounds like for some reason even though it is showing as the kids account it is acting like it is still the main account. He specifically says that
heck they can even see my playback setting and resume any movie/show from where I stopped
So that sounds like a glitch. I actually noticed a similar thing from my Android Head Unit awhile back, where when I switched users it showed the sidebar & playlists of the user that had been logged in before. I thought it was an issue with my device & restarted & logged in as the account I wanted & it was fixed. There’s also another problem that has yet to be fixed that might be related, when I switch users the Pinned to Sidebar stuff is reset like 3 out of every 4 times to nothing
For one thing, your keyboard seems to be broken as the caps lock gets stuck way too much.
Any software you buy is updated from time to time and the GUI may or may not be changed. The company, in 99.99% of the time, won’t ask your permission first. You aren’t being forced to do anything. You don’t like it? Stop paying for it and using it. Go use something else.
I now see plex has started added new promotional discovery content right in the middle of my own personal media.
Please see in the following screenshot from S07E15 of Fear the Walking Dead where plex has inserted front and centre their bloatware promoting the new discovery functionality.
This is local content. I am not using discovery and episode is accessed via my home hub on the continue watching screen. Android mobile plex client 9.3.0.32695.
EDIT: I bet this is an edge case which they failed to account for now as the episode is due to air in the future. But you can clearly see what is coming down the track from a UX perspective.
