[Implemented] Fully Disable Discover & search results from Streaming Services (More Ways To Watch)

Mea culpa. I need to read beyond the pretty pictures sometimes.

It’s not there for me in my personal media on web/iOS

Seriously ? I mean SERIOUSLY ?

We ask for disable and they throw more in our face ?!

@BigWheel can you confirm it ?

Do you actually have that episode? it doesn’t release until this coming Sunday. Do you get the same thing on S07E14?

Edit: looks like you are on a beta version of the client. This does not occur on the most up-to-date public version 9.2.1.32664. In fact, you don’t see where to watch it at the episode level even if you search more ways to watch for the title on that version of android.

The ep is released.

It says in the screenshot that it WILL air on May 29th.
That would be not released.

I’m really curious about this, because it would be nice to see stuff that is coming up that hasn’t aired yet if you choose to see that

Yes, with the choice to see it or disable it

That’s what I was saying, it still seems like this is a glitch because it doesn’t seem to add up, but when it does come out I will appreciate this feature showing me new episodes of shows I have that are coming out but haven’t aired yet. But ONLY if it is something I can choose to turn on or off. Because I can see that getting really annoying. Ideally I’d like to be able to turn it on or off on a per-library basis

Yes, as I stated in my post this is my local content and I have the episode. If you know the walking dead shows then you will know they are available ahead of the planned air time via amc early access which is approx 1 week early.

This seems to only happen for this 1 episode and from what I can see only happens on the mobile android client. I’d say that team messed up and left stuff enabled in this edge case of an episode air date being in the future.

Regardless, this embedded intrusive adware to promote their “where to watch stuff” in my local media is yet another bad sign of things to come. I just hope when they FINALLY roll-out the promised change to give us control to disable/enable at the account level it accounts for scenarios like this within our clients.

@anon5074910 I’m able to reproduce this with 9.3.0. Let me look into this.

Ah, that makes sense. I could reproduce the issue on my phone as well, but only after using a placeholder labeled for the episode.
I initially thought you were saying that it was showing the episode on the list when you didn’t have a file for it. Which I can see being of use, though limited, but if it only happens when the file exists it’s totally useless for that purpose.

This is definitely foreboding as it means there is code in there to show More Ways To Watch for things you already have in your local library, it just hasn’t been enabled yet…

I had the same issue occur on the Apple TV client.

An episode showed as “airing on…” even though it had already aired and I had it in my personal library.

Was confusing at first.

Thank you, let us know what is happening

No, I don’t follow that show, So I didn’t know you could get it early from AMC. Which is why I asked. your screen shot clearly shows coming 5-29-2022. But as I noticed you seem to be on a pre-release build that is not yet released to the everyone. So, I’m thinking it’s probably a bug in that build. They are probably trying to add where to watch this specific episode to where to watch and added it to the local media view by mistake.

according to this 9.2.2 is now the latest for Plex for android.

I was answering another comment asking if the person has the file.
The ep is released, as in the ep is available on the server.

Gotcha. It’s been cleared up now. I didn’t realize it was a file he had, I had thought it was showing him an episode he didn’t have yet, which I think could be nice potentially. I think the other person asking thought the same thing I did, because according to the screenshot the episode hadn’t aired yet.
What you didn’t explain, but @anon5074910 did was that the episode hadn’t officially aired, but the show does a pre-screening for people who have the (I assume paid) service AMC Early Access. I don’t watch the show. I created a test show with placeholder videos to test the error & didn’t see it, but I was going off the misunderstanding that it was showing an episode card for an episode that hadn’t aired. In that case I thought it was potentially cool that it showed when an episode was going to air (maybe the only things I think the current Watchlist is good for) but thought it’d be annoying if it showed the “Specials” episodes that I have as Episode 100 of a season because it comes between the seasons in the specials because I have it somewhere else as an anomaly to Plex because they won’t let us tag an episode to match without being where they decided, wrongly, that it should go

Just to show my problem:

When I choose the episode in my phone does not show any option for streaming. My cousin it shows options but actually he is not able to play from my server… only the streaming service.

Both Running Android App

His phone:

My Phone:

Looks like this may been addressed in the latest beta… (9.3.0.32842)

BETA:

  • Preplay: don’t show “watch from these locations” section for library items with future release.

Let’s hope it was an error and not another annoying addition that we will see added later.

Yes, they have fixed the QA escape which leaked this new code ahead of time giving us a snapshot of what is to come. I’m certainly thankful of that.

However, ultimately it’ll only be addressed when we can fully disable all this adware promotional functionality at the account level which has been promised and as yet has not arrived.

Won’t be long until this request hits its 2 month birthday.
