So I recently went back to the blog from many moons ago about Plex Music “going to eleven”, wherein around two years ago Elan himself responded to a comment about gapless playback by saying it’s “definitely on the list” and “we do realize it’s important”, and I tried to post there in an attempt to get an update. My post sat in pending status for a week, then was changed to removed with neither apology nor explanation. Let’s see if this one makes it…!
Ember (Emby fork) for Xbox One has gapless audio playback. And the Ember developer did it himself – or had help, in either case, it wasn’t a huge group of people working on one feature. Plex devs, if you’re struggling to implement in all clients, then implement the feature into clients that support it in their default music player, like iOS. The excuse of “its complicated given all of our clients” is crap. They add features all the time that are “exclusive” to a specific client. iOS soft subtitles comes to mind. I get the complexity of doing it for every single client, I myself am a programmer by trade, but to not roll out support for the “easier” clients is really annoying. Especially when the clients’ default music app has no issues with gapless audio.
I agree, an option to turn on gapless playback would be useful! +1
FWIW This is the main reason I stopped using PMP. Plex for Kodi does gapless playback seamlessly.
plz! this seems so native now! dont make me use another service for music! <3plex
Woohoo! Thanks @Gittalonglildoggies ! After seeing your post I was inspired to try your Kodi/Plex combo, and I’m now sitting here listening gaplessly to some of my all time favorite albums!
It’s a bit sad that Plex can’t be bothered to step up and make this standard in all players, but thanks to you I shall suffer gaps no more!!
+1 for iOS
+1
Gapless playback would be amazing.
Can we please get this for the love of Pete?
Do they need to do a Kickstarter for this, or something? I already pay for a Plex Pass but would be willing to give some extra money to be able to listen to music properly.

Already exists. Use Kodi with the add-on.
Or wait until it’s implemented on your platform… Wasn’t available on Android until exoplayer2, now we’re waiting for migration.
Using Kodi w/ Plex Add-on is a hack at best. Plex just needs to properly prioritize features/fixes and stop implementing excess crap no one wants or asks for.

Kodi doesn’t work with Chromecast which is where I’ve mostly been using Plex for music, and in any case I can’t be bothered to muck around with these third-party solutions that keep being offered up. I’d rather Plex just got it together.

Plex for Kodi is an official platform offered by Plex.
And I don’t know that Chromecast offers gapless at all… Does it work in other apps?

Google says it’s possible, using something called Media Source Extensions. People report varying degrees of success with Spotify, Google Music, and an Android app called Hi-Fi Cast.
Plex must have gapless !
Was shocked when I saw this wasn’t native! +100 for gapless
It would be nice if Plex would tell is when they will work on gapless playback, or if never, tell us, so we can get on with our lives.
The Plex add-on uses Kodi’s media player which does support gapless playback. But that’s not an excuse as to why it hasn’t been implemented into the various Plex clients.
Supporting gapless playback wouldn’t be terribly difficult for lossless codecs. You’d run into trouble with MP3 however. It’s possible to support gapless MP3 playback and it’s easier under specific conditions but those conditions aren’t always met making gapless more difficult. That being said, I still can’t wrap my head around why they don’t support it for lossless codecs, which would be easier to do anyway.
+1 for this.
I had slightly higher hopes that maybe syncing files to the local device would alleviate this but it doesn’t. Really hope this could be a feature that could be implemented…seeing as it is possible with other music players/streaming services (both with local and streamed content)
