[Implemented] Gapless Playback

Honest to God Y’all!
Do you not have a single Pink Floyd fan on your staff?
I love Plex but HATE the fact we cannot listen to music the way the artist intended it to be played.
Its been YEARS of people asking for this feature and its such a simple thing to do!
Tried to listen to Dark Side Of The Moon last night and could not get past it.
Keep up the great work, but for the love of God, listen to the feedback and spend 15 minutes and add the feature.

For now you can use the new Plexamp, or Kodi with one of the plugins, they support it.

I tried using Plexamp specifically because the announcement said it supports seamless playback, but it won’t play anything on my system. OS version listed as supported, but no audio plays.

The wait continues.

This is a must-have feature. Seems like it’s been requested for years now. Any update from Plex?

It’s working great on iOS, but is still missing on macOS, Windows, and Android.

Since we’re paying customers, Plex staff should at least be able to give an update, right?

Gapless playback is finally available in the new Plexamp player. Here’s hoping it trickles down to the other ones too.

@KarlDag Based on what I was reading on the Plexamp Twitter account, its not server side, it’s actually client side for that app… and they said they either have to try to sort out a server side option, which they say is difficult, or set it up client by client… and some platforms supposedly don’t support that? Idk… :frowning:

Also my understanding. Actually for the sake of at least having it after all these years on some major platforms: Plex-it client-side if it can be supported. Server-side is sexy, sure thing, but less attractive if you never ever get it.

Yes please. If I try to stream music in my car Im waiting for tens of seconds before the next song starts in some cases.

I can’t believe it has not been fixed yet. this is essential for classical music.

essential for classical music, ambient music, electronic music, DJ Mixes… The list goes on and on. Personally I am not nearly as into music that has a clear cut beginning middle and end, I like work that continues on seamlessly over multiple tracks. I know I’m not the only person on earth who is this way. Plex has for many years now been my one and only place for all of my media and it’s beyond frustrating that we can’t work out this one critical aspect. It’s crucial for people like myself. Please get this done in the next update. It’s incredible that we’re now DVR’ing live TV and, for whatever reason, group watching shows via Virtual Reality but we can’t implement gapless playback. Which lends to another question, if you can implement group viewing for VR why can’t we implement group viewing for non VR viewing? Lets get our priorities straight. Please get this done once and for all. A forever grateful lifelong plex user

But is it working on iOS? I have tried with both synced content and streaming and have found that it doesn’t work on my iPhone. There is still a gap in DJ mixes that I have ripped directly from the original CD to mp3 (V0).

Still waiting for this one. Please make it happen. :expressionless:

Another +1 here - I’d really like to be able to enjoy my music on my Android phone as intended - I was surprised when recently pulling my music into Plex that this wasn’t a feature - I thought most folks that produce audio software had ironed this out a fair old time ago.

Another gapless output request here. With Plex mix, album shuffle & so many music improvements, gapless output is really a glaring omission. I may finally retire my Subsonic server once this is implemented. To answer jtothen’s question, I have not yet seen this working on the iOS client. That & Roku are the big ones for me but Android is obviously highly requested as well.

+1. Recently switched from Google Play Music and I’d really like to see gapless playback on Android as well as pre-buffering for the next song when streaming.

One more “it’s a gotta have” request for “gapless playback.”

I’m, frankly, floored by why this hasn’t been done yet. Plex is a great tool, overall, but it has its shortcomings… and this is the single most glaring one out there.

What’s the status? Please implement this feature soon! (on Android)

I’m astonished that this isn’t a feature. The team has obviously put a lot of effort into the music library aspect of Plex, but this obvious shortcoming makes it almost unusable for me.

HEEEEEEELLLLLLLOOOOOOO, plex.

it’s disturbing that a quite mundane feature that’s been supported for almost two decades in most media players isn’t available by default in the what the developers tout as the most advanced media player in the world.

all without any official comment.

wtf is going at plex management… piss poor IMO.

Also curious when this will finally be implemented. It’s quite astonishing it has taken this long for such a simple but important feature.

Also needed here, it’s astonishing that such a problem hasn’t been solved in all this time
