[Implemented] Gapless Playback

+1
PHT has gapless support, but the 2 new Windows media players (i.e. the desktop and Windows 10 app versions) DO NOT. That’s rather bizarre. Since the latter two are in active development please support.

I mostly use FLAC which do not have the end of file block issue that mp3 files have - so really not having gapless support for at least FLAC is very odd.

Please also add gapless to Chromecast and embedded versions.

Just upgraded to Plex Pass and thought “finally a flac player I can work with” …only to find no gapless playback. Is it in the works? All those mix albums are unplayable. :frowning:

Gapless playback is definitely a must-have.

I know this will be addressed one day, I am always hopeful when I see a “server update available” on Plex Web or an IOS update on my iPhone and iPad and I always look in the details to see what is fixed or new.

I might have said this in the past and I apologize if I’m repeating myself but a gapless playback that has fade in and fade out customizable options would make me happier than I already am with my favorite media company. Until then, I will enjoy what I have (which I consider to be bountiful).

anyone serious about music should know that gapless playback is essential for anyone who loves music!

Maybe Plex could let us know if they’re even paying attention? Is it getting implemented? Contemplating just ditching PlexPass and moving back to Spotify, at least they can make a decent music player.

+1001 This is a MUST.

Absolutely essential! We should be able to experience the music the way the artist intended.I can’t recommend PMP to people until this is fixed.

Then recommend OpenPHT.

+1 This is definitely a must-have!

Please, for the love of all that is holy…

Give us gapless playback. It is a must.

+1, it’s a must have

I just realized this thread had been around for 4.5 years, I had such high hopes but it looks like we aren’t getting this option. I by no means am speaking for development, I’m only being realistic.

I mean, really now, has anyone even given a reason why this isn’t supported yet? It’s incredibly frustrating.

Liked (on first post) …and +1 here. My focus is on Android, this needs to be a priority. If Plex relies on a third party framework for audio playback, perhaps they could spend a few developer hours on said project to implement this? Does anyone know the project/player used for audio playback in Plex on Android? If so I would encourage others to post the feature request there as well.

First post in 2012. I think this is must be a DOS-attack to the customers than…?

I know most here are not developers, just realize if gapless was not built in in the beginning, this sort of feature can be very hard to implement because of all the variables it creates… it’s a hair ball. Not saying that it can’t be done, just trying to explain why it takes so long. You might as well be tasked with making your Honda Accord into a submarine. Sure, it has a body, it has a motor, but to retool for underwater could be difficult even though it may appear to be easy.

Oh… and just because your neighbor has a road worthy submersible doens’t make the task any easier.

I too am waiting for gapless, but I’m not getting my hopes up… would almost take a version 2.0 style product (and I think that’s likely the case). And all the feature regression and changes that come along with that.

Sitting here listening to Daft Punk’s Discovery and enjoying the 5 second gaps in what is supposed to be a gapless album. What is the status of this feature devs? 4 years to turn around an essential feature is simply unacceptable. I understand implementing gapless playback (properly) can be challenging. However, given the quality of the tool you’ve built thus far, I can’t understand why such a core feature of a proper audio player hasn’t been implemented yet.

More frustrating than the feature not being implemented, however, is the fact that after hundreds of votes and many contributions to the discussion by the community there hasn’t been even one comment from PLEX or the developers on this feature. The excuse I see thrown around a lot on these forums is that “PLEX does not discuss features that may” (or may not) “be in development.” As a (paying) customer, that sounds like: “go away, we don’t have time for you or your request.”

As paying customers, I challenge each of you to not let PLEX slide on this one. A company who does not respond to their customer is doomed to fail.

With that said, @MovieFan.Plex, could you (or the appropriate party from PLEX) please provide an update on the implementation of this essential feature?

+1 Must have!
