Would really love to see this feature. Plex is my go-to for Movies, TV Shows and also Music. But those gaps are really killing the mood
+1 This would be a nice feature to have.
+1 for gapless playback on the Plex Web & Android app. That’s where I mostly use my library and become sad when listening to tracks that are meant to have a gapless transition; and yes, the tracks are seamless/gapless when listened to with different software.
Agree, pretty much anything, I just gave up trying to listen one of my Dream Theater albums.

So what I did to solve this was go back to iTunes and upload everything to Apple Music. Now I can play my music on my Apple TV with gapless playback.

I use Roon, it’s a real music system. They’ll implement remote syncing long before Plex adds gapless playback.
Roon supports airplay by the way.
Hm, 4 years with no indication from Plex… This, more than the lack of the feature, is one of the things pushing me to find other solutions. I was listening to some albums on Google Play Music yesterday and was struck by how good my albums sounded; I had forgotten what it was like to be able to enjoy a good album without having to wait… and wait… and wait for the next track to continue.
It shouldn’t be any work at all to cache the next song while the current song is playing. It baffles me that Plex has ignored this issue for so long.
That being said, do you have any word on the progress of this missing feature (bug) @MovieFan.Plex ?
I’ve posted a side-by-side comparison of Plex and Subsonic/D’Sub:
youtu.be/Lbacfo7lXN0
Note how seeking is instant and how gapless playback works with Subsonic, but not with Plex. For those seeking this feature, I would recommend you request a refund from Plex (if you’re a PlexPass member) and try out Subsonic.
For Plex: Subsonic is open source (cough). I know it’s not as simple as plugging code from one program into another; however, much of this work has been done already, and it should be trivial to enable gapless playback through pre-caching with Plex.
Hey, thanks. Subsonic looks pretty good. I think I’ll give it a try. Just add a Roku app and they would be perfect for my needs!
There is a paid and a ‘lite’ Roku app for Subsonic.
Well, the Subsonic Roku app sucks. Plex wins with that feature, hands down. It really seems like these things (both Plex and Subsonic apps) are created by people that have never listened to an album all the way through in their lives. At least Plex will play an album (though with irritating gaps) and shows the cover art while doing it.

I did use and pay for Roon for a while and bought a Mac mini to run it, but while I liked the multi-room feature and vast audio format support, everything else about it was objectively terrible compared to Spotify, iTunes or even Plex. Finding new music and managing it was especially difficult.
I’ve tried most solutions, but I’m happy with my setup now. I just wish Plex would add gapless playback so I can listen to my lossless mix albums again (I only keep lossy formats in iTunes now).

If you are still a Mac user you should take a look at Swinsian. It’s bloat free & lightweight, just like iTunes used to be.
Here with an annual Plex pass. The lack of gapless playback is incredibly frustrating! I’m concerned to see that the feature was first requested in 2013. Gaps in the audio playback significantly disrupt live concerns, many classical albums and mixes like A State of Trance.
This is about as frustrating as the lack of cover art in the folder view.

Thanks I’ll check it out! But I must say, iTunes works really well now. (Sorry you guys, this is a bit OT but somewhat related)
What I like about my current setup is the iTunes+iTunes Match+Apple Music combo, meaning I can have all my old downloaded tracks alongside all new streamed ones and access them anywhere (not just on the computer). I used to have a lot off lossless in iTunes but I simply uploaded/matched my entire library, which matches them at 256 kbps AAC, and removed the original database so that everything is now in the cloud.
But I did move out all lossless albums from my iTunes library to a separate folder, so that I can still listen to my music in lossless if I want to. That’s why I want gapless playback in Plex.
@Mr. Studd I hear you man. I listen to many DJ Mixes as well and it’s as if we’ve been completely overlooked. I hope someone at Plex decides to look out for us. I tried something called subsonic which is a media server like plex for music. no where near as nice looking but same concept and has both gapless playback and transcoding down bitrates for mobile devices that use data. I really feel like THOSE two features shouldn’t be that hard for our guys at plex to implement. If they can do it so too can the guys at PLEX. I’ll always be loyal to PLEX but please, we need these 2 features desperately.
this is the main losing feature for music. video playback is great and all the information on our content is so nice but the gaps are terrible.
+1 for this
Has Plex responded to this yet? How about Barkley?
