I would really like it if I could have a series of movies be combined into one section (as it does with tv shows) and keep it with the rest of your movie library.

Agreed. It is absolutley absurd that this has been requested for years and there is still no response. Collections is not a valid solution. I have the Bond 50 collection. I don't want to see 28 random Bond movies throughout my collection at once, nor do I want to see them all sorted as one big block. It's just awkward. I want to see one icon showing "Bond 50" and then see all of the movies under that. Even if it takes me manually creating a root/dummy container to put all the movies in.
+1 Simply supporting the underlying directory structure would be a HUGE improvement, like the Web app.

The only thing the +1 does in reality is bump the thread up in the forum listing...WHich isn't a bad thing I suppose considering how many people want this!
But if all you do is +1 and don't like the initial post the vote doesn't count.
