This is one of 2 features that will actually get me to upgrade out of the ability to use Plex Media Server. Still using 0.9.7.22 until then.
+1
I would love to see music video support. In iTunes tags are the same as music, but it's video - hopefully it shouldn't be hard to create a new type that borrows form 2 existing media types.
This would be my top priority as my large collection of music videos is REALLY sloppy as home movies in Plex.
Thanks for your consideration.
Or even be able to add music videos to the current music type. If we could just add video files to the music section, this would solve the issue for many users.
I use a TV Shows section using the Personal Media Shows agent for my music videos and have the tags I want in the files.
Works quite well for me but then I am not too fussed about the tags other than the Song Title for the video.

Thanks so much for the tip! Working decent for me. If you use iTunes to manage your music, Watch the Album name and track number (with iTunes prefixing the track names with track numbers) to get this working without inappropriately matching videos.
Thanks again!

Hi Convas - seems to work ok, I am doing something similar. This is still not as elegant as an individual section. I also assume that you are manually adding the album art?
Convas and Propel - If you like the concept of Plex handling music videos properly and then the ability to shuffle the collection then help us out by liking the first post.
OMG, what an awesome idea!
A decent way to handle music videos, or rather the lack of, by any streaming system (not just PMS), has always driven me bat$hit crazy.
Wish I'd thought of posting this suggestion :)
Another post has alerted me to MusicBrainz as a possible database to get the metadata http://forums.plex.tv/index.php/topic/86256-use-musicbrainz-for-music-matching-and-metadata/

Much love to you and Rodger Combs for this info.

+1 from me to on this one.
+1 for both the music videos and singles backed by either Freebase or MusicBrainz.
Please & thank you!

Would like to see this formally implemented in Plex with playlist support.
Playlist support with start at time x and end at time y to skip theatrical stuff that is a playlist buzzkill would be ideal.
+1 and Liked !
100 Likes, that has to mean something! I am patiently waiting for this to be implemented so that I can build my Plex Music Video Library. I did it manually for an older server, but it took many hours, I am now hoping that something more automatic and streamlined comes along for my new server. Thanks again everyone.
Music videos are an art form in their own right, so I’d welcome specific support in Plex… And while we’re at it, why not TV commercials as well? Seriously, there are some true artworks among them, and they get awards at Cannes etc.
It would be nice to tap into a database like mvdbase.com for music videos or coloribus.com for TV commercials to download metadata like director, director of photography, producer, etc.
And while I’m dreaming, is there a Cannes Plex channel or something similar to watch awarded commercials?
Thanks Aeonx, would you mind liking the original post to help out - Cheers.
I have a small collection of music videos that i started i like the idea to do play all and have a music channel playing i can skip etc.
Problem is is tastes in music. I.e mainstream vs alternative. I put them into folders separating them but that then loses the functionality to play all?
+1 This would be a very useful feature. When oh when.......
Kerbys - Can you like the original post to help out, cheers
